He knows his stuff which made the class enjoyable. You dont get up and act in this class you sit and learn from a powerpoint. You have to see 2-3 plays and write reaction papers. He offers extra credit and allows 4 absences. Hes very easy to talk to and is fair at grading. Fairly easy class just stay on top of things and take good notes!!

Hes a cool person but a harsh grader. None of us have much experience with acting, so its slightly unfair how he grades the performances.

This was by far my favorite class, he keeps everything simple and interesting, answers your questions, responds to emails and it's very easy to pass with an A. You do have to attend 2 plays and write an essay for each one and the tests are just everything you learn on the PowerPoints and he gives extra credit. 10/10 would/Will take him again.

Clay was probably one of the best professors I have ever had. He is passionate about his field and, as some people have noted below, knows most people take THEA 101 because it is mandatory. But that is what makes him stand out: HE TRIES TO MAKE YOU CARE. He is a hard teacher but I have never been so rewarded at the end of the semester. Take him.

Clay was good for lectures and talking. He is a rough grader, and takes points off for stupid things. I would not take him again. You get to use one note card per test and there is no study guide or outline.

The class was mostly filled with lectures about giving speeches that will help you on your speech day. The professor is always available for any questions you may have.

He is very passionate about theater and it is obvious in lectures. The lectures are very long and boring if you have no interest in theater. There is almost never homework and when there is he grades easily. The tests are very hard! He lets students use a note-card, take advantage of it and write down as much as possible! Overall awesome professor.

Great teacher, knows a great deal about theater, exams get harder each time, if you don't study you will fail. He is pretty tough when it comes to grading play reaction papers so ask for re-visons before turning play reaction papers in. I had to claw my way out of the "C" grave with extra credit. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT IT WILL HELP IN THE END!!!

His class is a lecture from start to finish aside from a short play clip in the beginning. He expects you to remember the whole power point so it makes studying for texts very difficult. However, he does allow you to use both sides of a note card which he provides. Can be funny and is helpful to an extent. Makes you work for your grade.

BE PREPARED TO PAY ATTENTION AND TAKE NOTES. YOU HAVE TO ATTEND 2 PLAYS AND WRITE 4-5 PAGE REACTION PAPER ON THE PRODUCTION. YOU WILL TAKE NOTES ALL CLASS PERIOD AND THAT'S IT. THIS IS BASICALLY A HISTORY CLASS ON THEATER. YOU MUST BE IN CLASS AND TAKE A LOT OF NOTES AND STUDY! HE DOES ALLOW AN INDEX CARD CHEAT SHEET ON ALL TESTS AND FINAL

He's very considerate and passionate about the subject. The way points are spread out do make it a little hard to get a B, but very fair teacher especially when grading papers. He can come off kind of smug, but his intentions are good. Provides a notecard for the tests. A lot of extra credit and no textbook just a play you have to read. Good Guy

very easy as long as you take the notes and write more than what is just on the screen. allows a cheat sheet for tests. plays are mandatory and so is theater work. it isn't hard at all to do.

This man seriously loves to hear himself talk. It's the most boring class I have been to. He is aware of the fact that we are all just taking this because we have to and he still over does it like we are theatre majors. As a person who doesn't have an interesting in this speciality, I hate it, but I bet theatre majors who don't know anything will.

This class was okay. he is a good teacher but his tests don't make too much sense and are very cryptic. He REALLY cares about speech and takes the grading serious! overall it was a good speech class because i know i grew but it was challenging in trying to win him over.

Eh. Treats his students like kids, making you take a quiz on the syllabus and have a NOTE for an excused absence. Tests are a bit out of left field (feel like trick ?'s) - he lectures and rambles a bit so you're not really sure how much you need to be writing down (hint: write down & study everything). Not much homework but there are some deadlines

Mr. Kirkland is a great teacher. He doesn't give much homework, but you do have deadlines for outlines in speech(ect). For the most part he keeps you interesting. he offers extra credit. He will not give you the notes if you miss class. He is a great speech and theater teacher. Take him especially if you're a first time freshmen!

I LOVED THIS CLASS! It's the class I looked forward to every week. You don't need the book, just take detailed notes, you also get to watch a broadway clip before every class! It's a very fun class especially if you like Theatre, it's also an EASY A.

Mr. Kirkland is a very good teacher. You are required to come to class everyday to take notes. If you miss class, he will not give you the powerpoint notes. Take this class with a friend so you know you will have notes if you miss. I learned a lot in this class. If you participate in class discussion, the class goes by so much faster. Take him!
