Mike was a great prof to have for this class, he gives plenty of notes and gives reasonable grades. He does give his lectures very fast and notetaking is sometimes hard but as long as you jot the main points you'll be good to go! It's hard to reach him outside of class time and although he can come across as intimidating, he is willing to help.

Dr. O'Brien is one of the greatest profs I've ever had. He doesn't use a book and you're expected to take your own notes based on what he says but if you enjoy the material and you pay attention, you'll definitely do well in his class. He really knows his stuff and he's got an amazing sarcastic sense of humour. Great prof for sure!!!

Awful. Had to write everything he spoke down, no book, and he didn't care much for pausing to let students stay on pace with him. Not easy to approach. He knows his stuff really well, but he's extremely egotistical and stand-offish with his students. Even if he persisted he was "nice." Material was good. Unless you've got guts, don't take.

This man is a great man. I'll admit, he's kinda scary when you first look at him but he's not at all! He gives great lectures but he doesn't put up any notes so if you miss a class you miss the notes! Overall though he is fair grader and his tests aren't bad! Take his class if you get the chance, it's 100% worth it!

Dr. O'Brien is one of my favourite professors to date. His explanations are very clear and he definitely knows what he is talking about. He goes into very specific and interesting details about the course, which keeps things interesting. He marks fairly and provides good feedback which helps improve essays and assignments!!

Mike has definitely been one of my fav profs for History. He is clear, easy to listen to, knows his material, & does not use a text. Class is mandatory as the notes are extensive and not provided on D2L. Uses powerpoint for reference. Short 1st paper 10%, paper proposal 10%, term paper 30%, participation 20% & final 30%. Material covers 1066-1789CE

I love Dr. O'Brien's WWII seminars. They are fun, interesting, and actually easy. Would recommend to anyone who was interested. And though he might not seem it to most people, he's a lovely friendly guy, don't be fearful to approach him. Go see him during his office hours, lovely man.

Dr. O'Brien is a fair grader, perfectly clear, can answer any question you ask him. He's a pretty fair grader, is flexible with dates and doesn't make you buy an $80 textbook (for this course) which is a plus! Would love to take another class with him again!

Mike was a fairly good professor. His lectures were well-organised and interesting, and if you learn best from notes, he's your man. However, I found his evaluations a little rote, if perfectly straightforward. In addition, his grading was fair but arbitrary, and neither he nor his TA left any constructive criticism on my work. Good, but not great.

I've had the pleasure to take several courses from Dr. O'Brien. He is simply brilliant. Knows his stuff inside and out and has a real interest for what he teaches. Humorous and a fair grader I would reccomend any course tought by him. Especially good in subjects of military history which are his field for the most part.

I love this man, SO MUCH. He is so crystal clear with his lectures. He never goes off topic and he doesn't spend time talking about stuff that doesn't matter, he's always right on track and yet he's never boring. The only bad thing is that he doesn't write a lot of comments on papers. but other than that he is AMAZING. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Mike is a great professor. Good lecturer and at times humorous. The only real problem I had was that comments on papers were pretty lackluster, but grading was entirely fair. While it seems Mike feigns interest in teaching, he is good at what he does. Highly recommend Mike and this course, it's an easy A.

He is a very fair professor. Great at responding to emails, and very helpful in that way. However, if you make an appointment, you will have about 10 mins of his time at most. So emailing is better. He wants you to do well, and is entertaining in class.

I think he is the worst prof. I have ever had. He makes his students feel stupid, and laughs at their questions instead of helping them. He will not help you outside of class, and will take forever to reply to emails, if he even replies at all. overall bad prof.
