Comment:
I only went to his lectures twice because it just sort of confused me, while he is a very charismatic lecturer, what he teaches is often not relevant to the tests or homework. If you have good Lab TAs, you are taught the same things at the end of the week but far better. His tests go between super easy and super hard. If you have him, go to labs.

Comment:
Extremely difficult if you don't have any CS experience. Lecture doesn't tend to help, most people skip after the first exam. Highly recommended to go to the PTC or asking TAs for help on homework which is extremely difficult. Due to the difficulty of the exams and homework the curves tend to be pretty large.

Comment:
He is not a good lecturer and most people stop going to lecture after Exam 1. If you want to pass, do the homework. The homework questions are harder than the exam questions. Go to the PTC if needed. The labs help introduce the content, and the TA's are helpful. You really have to put it on yourself to do well (more so than other classes).

The class for me was okay. To do well I suggest to complete the labs at home, work on previous exams, and go to lecture even you don't see a need to. The homework does take time but the exams were a lot simpler and there's always the PTC. Ask a lot of questions during exams because he wants questions done a specific way.

Comment:
Prof Leung said to us the course was very hard, but it actually wasn't. The grading was tough and meticulous and he seemed more concerned about getting a nice grade curve than teaching people valuable skills. He even said once that he "would like" some people to fail. But when I asked him questions, he answered in a please-go-away kind of way

Comment:
You will not get full credit if your code runs without mistakes and is reasonably efficient. If you don't comply with Leung's requirements or misinterpret his problems, you will not get an A. Try getting used to his writing "style" to be able to get to the main idea without getting hung up on details which he may describe poorly, including on exams

Comment:
Not clear, even sloppy, with HW and exam problems, which could be written in a confusing way and with poor grammar. At the same time, a very tough grader and will deduct points for smallest things, such as punctuation signs, variable names and "not efficient" code, even in more nuanced cases which are not explained in lectures (e.g. 2 loops vs 1).

He's a nice man who genuinely cares about what he's teaching, but he's very unclear. He tries to make lectures interesting, which I think he does as he has a few good jokes, BUT he's not great at getting the information across : go to the PTC AND DO THE HOMEWORK. If you can do the homework by yourself and understand what you did, you'll be fine.

If you have no prior experience in coding, then expect to have a difficult time. He is knowledgeable on the subject, but his way of teaching is a bit confusing (doesn't explain concepts clearly). He loves telling jokes, but they don't necessarily help you understand the concepts. His homework and tests are difficult and require a lot of thinking.

Literally did not learn anything in the lectures. The homework does not reflect the lectures at all and is pretty much impossible if you don't go to tutoring. I practically lived in the PTC.

Professor Leung's lectures are a complete waste of life. The only way to learn in this class is by doing the homework really early (make use of the PTC), but the tests are completely ridiculous. Taking this class was an exercise in frustration for me.

Great instructor. There are examples and case studies, so you can understand how they work right within class hour. The midterm and final exam mostly give examples and cases for you to solve, so no worries about theories and equations, etc. The time on finishing HW and final project is regular. Not many struggles.

He is a great professor, but his homework is EXTREMELY tough. I think as long as you really understand the homeworks, the tests will not be a surprise... Tough class overall

His matlab exams are very easy if you actually listen in class and do the homework by yourself. Most of the class doesn't do either, thus having the exam average drop down.

Already had coding experience before that so this class was pretty easy. Tests are very straightforward. No surprises. Lectures are worth going to as he goes into a lot of anecdotes. "Or statements are like thiseither I am going to marry somebody hot or marry somebody wealthy. If she is wealthy, I wont care if she is extremely ugly."

You need to think differently than the average person when doing coding. This is a problem most non-computer science majors have but they have to take this class. Leung tries to get you to think this way. I also learnt some life skills in this class because he is a chef on the side.

Asked for help on an exam, and he was no help whatsoever. Seems to favor certain people in the class, who also happen to be the only people who get generous partial credit. Curve is beautiful though, there is no question that I would have failed without it. So glad I do not have to retake this class, as we do not get along.

Comment:
Teaches from Lecture Notes adapted from the book -- these are very clear and very useful. Lectures are lively and offer material beyond the notes--asides, anecdotes, things of note, etc. There was no TA so we never got any HWs/exams back, and so we didn't have any grades before the withdrawal deadline. Easy open-book exams though so it worked out.
