Nice guy outside of class, but in class don't expect to only rely on the lectures/slides to get you through his exams. He doesn't say it but he requires you to do stuff beyond his lectures in order to get a good grade. Work ahead, you will not have time to slack in his class, his class is built around studying every day little by little.

Study study study... If you are in Bio-K 101 and feel like you've had your head trapped in the books, get ready! If you put your mind to it you will do well. Attend lectures, labs, and recitations. Take good notes and really put work into the class. It will pay off! There is always the BRC if you need help!

If possible, FIND A DIFFERENT PROF TO TAKE THIS COURSE WITH. The biology department would be much improved with the dismissal of Dr. Yost.

Yost is not a bad guy at all, his lectures are just terribly boring and overpacked with information. Large majority of class points are tests, so the only way to pass is attending lecture and/or reading the textbook.

It shouldn't be this much of a battle to get a good grade in the class. Yost has the class set up to where if you don't get nearly perfect scores on tests and assignments, you won't get an A. I average Bs on my lecture tests and perfect scores on my recitation assignments/quizzes and I'm looking at an average C grade. Doesn't want you to succeed.

Yost is one of the worst professors Ive ever had. Almost nothing that he says in class matters for the exams. Also, he makes it so that you cant go back to previous questions when taking an online exam. Lab feels like an entirely unrelated class and the lab exams suck. My recitation leader actually taught me more than Yost did.

I have never felt the need to rate one of my professors, but this has been the absolute worst class I have ever been a part of, so I felt the need to do so to warn others. No care for his students, very unorganized, and terrible at explaining things. Yost also comes off as very rude, and is not very tech-savvy. Avoid taking this class at all costs.

This class is the worst class I have ever taken in my entire academic career. Even as a Biomedical Engineering senior, I got straight As in all my classes. He does not care about the students and has horrible teaching skills. If you can take a class at a community college, or take a class at Purdue or IU Bloomington please do so. Do not recommend.

This man is actively trying to discourage people from pursuing STEM fields. He's a terrible teacher, doesn't care about his students, and goes incredibly fast and gives us so much info to learn in so little time. You know it's bad when a Bio prof. makes Chemistry look easy. I don't think he cares about his job. Avoid taking his class if you can.

I took K103 in Fall of 2020 when it was all online. I focused heavily on reading the book, and i thought the tests were fairly easy. I enjoyed Yost's class. Covers interesting information, and a plus if you already took Anatomy and Physiology as 2/3 of the class is that.

The class material is very interesting and I enjoyed that aspect. However, the amount of notes for lectures is CRAZY! I filled up a binder for the 1st of 4 tests alone! His tests are free-response to written prompts. I did like that there were 30 questions on the test, but you only had to answer the ones you wanted, not all 30. I would take it.

Since Covid, we are taking class online. He is not tech savy, goes too fast, too much material too little time. Posts lectures after class, but barely covers material in class. Will not allow make-up exams, even if internet goes out during your exam. Requires LockDown Browser, proctered exam. Homework is 25 questions, one due every two days.

This class is definitely the most difficult class I have ever taken, and that includes organic chemistry. However, I think that Dr. Yost is pretty good. He does generally seem to care. His tests are intense but he seems to try methods to make memorizing a little easier. The class really depends on the student to be honest.

Dr. Yost is actually a good professor. Everyone leaves bad reviews, however this is a college course, and if you want a good grade, you need to put in the effort. If you review the notes regularly along with the textbook, you will do just fine. The lab exams are definitely more challenging, so definitely study ahead of time for those.

Only class I have got a B in, in my two years of college. I received an A- in orgo & yet this basic bio class broke me. Lab is easy, but Dr. Yost was my recitation leader & his open ended quiz questions, plus his lecture exams, are unnecessarily hard. By far the hardest class I have taken, only due to the teacher. Interesting material, bad teacher.

This was the worst class I have taken. No replies to my emails ever. No curve during the global pandemic. Before the pandemic, I was on track for an A, but with no curving, this didn't happen. The slides are not available to view, and you don't have enough time to write the info down. Questions come from the book, that he never mentions in lecture.

Never answeres your emails. be prepared to have the hardest class in your degree. especially lab, you will spend many many hours to remember all bones and muscles. He is ok prof, but he knows too much and forgets that we pay for this course to learn, not to take ultra-heavy tests and remember material about every organism which able to move.

My biggest issue with him is that he is a terrible teacher. I mean, he is the worst explainer of things I've ever seen. His lectures are worthless. You'll have to read the book. Fortunately, attendance isn't mandatory. Grading criteria WERE clear until the quarantine started. After that, it was very unorganized compared to my other classes.

Imagine curving all of your students except the ones taking the course during a global pandemic :) Instead of making the class easier during these tough times, he made it 10xs worse! Last-minute announcements for everything! And gets frustrated whenever anyone asked about grading. I would say don't take him, but we're all left with no choice... GL!

This class is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. Granted we got moved online due to the current health situation, it only made the class 10x more difficult than it already was. You have to read the exam questions 5-6 times before you can even begin to comprehend what the question is asking. The curve was also taken away midsemester.
