I had him in an English class when he was at Western Oregon University in 2002. As long as you agree with him he loves you. If you are foolish enough to contradict him he'll make you pay by humiliating you in class. Avoid at all costs.

I was excited to take his class over the summer. He's passionate about what he teaches. Don't fall asleep in his class tho! He chucked a marker near me hitting the wall. Never fell asleep in his class again!! He uses different techniques to teach - very much appreciated compared to the "boring" professors!

He is brilliant and smart. Very passionate and I recommend taking his classes, taking his class is worth the amount of money we pay to go here. He also gives you a real life perspective of what he teaches which is the best.

I took Bethea for multiple classes (unfortunately, I had no choice). Many see his teaching style as gritty or innovative, but when I found he never bothered to read the paper he assigned, it just becomes clear his yelling and referring to old punk bands is a cover for not being prepared.

amazing teacher i love taking his class. he is incredibly bright and no other teachers at centenary compare to him...many students hate hi because he can get very passionate about things such as using cell phones in his class but why pay 40k to be here if your not going to learn and trust its very hard to not learn something from someone so smart!

When I took his Romantic & Victorian Lit class I had no idea what I was in for. At first I was offended and had no idea how to handle his teaching style, but once I opened my mind a little, I figured out how brilliant this man is! He can be kind of scary but hes adorable when he talks about birds or nature. Definitely worth taking a class.

The best kind of education broadens your thinking, and this professor is exemplary in helping you to do so. He balances literature with art, music AND examples from real life. He knows his subject, and while his teaching style is different from others at CC, you will not fall asleep in his classes.

It's true, you either love him or hate him. He lives to teach, and has an incredible ability to relate ancient literature to things that are happening right now. Class is always interesting and entertaining. This man is amazing, give him a try. You may find yourself irritated and offended, but you may find yourself pleasantly surprised. A+ Prof.

I'll be honest: You either love Bethea or you hate him. I loved him and his classes. He inspired me. His classes are a combination of literatue and current events, which I find interesting. I wish I could take more classes with him. However, if you oppose his values DO NOT TAKE. He shouts about them a lot. I love it, but a lot of people drop it.

Lenny Bruce meets Henry Rollins. A riotous cavalcade of sarcastically delivered racial epithets and in-your-face liberal op ed designed to promote critical, outside-the-box thinking. LOUD and PHYSICAL. Throws furniture, bangs on walls, and screams bloody murder. Lessons are highly informative - invaluable - if you can tolerate his methods.

Interesting approach to teaching. There is a lot of yelling. Not at anyone in particular. He gets worked up about things that happened in the news and tries to relate the material to real life situations. He got side tracked easily. Overall a great teacher he really tries to change how his students look at the world. Just don't get on his bad side
