Comment:
Matzke gives a heavy curve on his exams and for final grade will bump you up to the next grade (i.e A- moves to A). He is QUICK to respond to emails and truly cares about his students. He is great to take during online and has great notes and power point presentations to help you with your homework and tests.

The professor was incredibly helpful throughout the semester. Half of the grade you receive in that class is based on homework and the other half is the midterm and final. You receive an extra 3% in the class if you have 3 or less absences and also participate in class. I would defiantly take this professor again!

I got an A and I barely know physics. Its all about the old exam and him and the faculty know it. Its shameful practice and misuse of tenure. Another example of the science departments failure. He doesn't teach but dictates.

I took professor Matzke for PHYS 125 and 126. He is a nice man and willing to help if you have any questions. Like many people have said, it is ESSENTIAL to get your hands on past exams. There have been A students who got C because they didn't have past exams, and C students who got A's because they did. Make friends!!

7 exams including the final, but you drop one. True/false, multiple choice, and 3 short answer Qs. Overall grade consists of exams (50 pts each) and lab (60 pts). Some of his practice exam q's do show up on exams. He can really ask any of the material though, so make sure to study all your notes and maybe do the book problems. Every exam is curved

Comment:
Not the best professor to take if you want to understand the concepts of the course. He pretty much just derives formulas and spends very little time explaining what the concepts actually mean. Textbook is useless. None of the problems are like his exam problems. Only exams, so not a lot of room for error, although grading is generous.

wow where do i start. this class was quit a game. He knows many people have old exams so he starts giving random stuff on exams to throw you off. He's a teacher who loves to play the exam games, when someone turn in exam he quickly looks at answers and laughs when we take long and knows he tricked us. so funny, u realize it over time.

This guy has no idea what's going on. Gives exams that are nothing like class work. Lectures involve him copying equation derivations onto the board in light speed and playing old videos that are unhelpful. Only way to do well is study old exams. No grades updated online so you don't know how you're doing till the final. Very few assignments.

Two words: OLD EXAMS. Yeah, you can be a nerd and study the book, but that would be totally inefficient. The hardest part of this class is making sure you don't get lazy about consistently reviewing the old questions. Several days before each exam, start looking at the old exams until you've gone through every one that you have. Viola! Easy AA-

I stopped going to lectures, he would either a movie or solve proofs on the board. The only way to pass the class is to study the old exams. If you can do that it's not too bad.

The only way to survive this class is by having old exams. He sucks at explaining so teach yourself there is a curve on the bright side

Class was ok..but realized that going to lecture pretty much got pointless. If u have the hook up (old exams) and study early not the night before..u should be able to do well. Matzke was kinda weird and has frightening eyes..but ya just study early. dont waste ur money on the book..and labs r super duper easy. STUDY EARLY.

This professor was great. very knowledgeable about the material. Seemed like he has a love for physics. Loves to help out. Tests were fairly easy. A lot of book use, if you read the chapters and do the optional questions and anyone can get an A in this class.
