HE SUCKS, I'm sorry, he blamed his student saying, "You should be used to the online platform since its been almost a year" and blamed his students for not understanding his midterm like, I understand there is an ease of transition onto online due to COVID-19, but you can learn more through the textbook. No examples or rubrics so good luck

The class is passable but the structure of the class was frustrating. The guys powerpoints and lectures are little to no help for the weekly quizzes. The tests are full of typos and extremely specific questions. There is a 30+ page pager, which is actually around 50 because there are so many required sources. The class is a waste of time.

This class is a huge waste of time. Anyone who actually wants to learn about politics take a different professor. There is a 30 page paper that is a complete and total waste of time that is only worth 15% of the grade. He talks himself in circles. The essay questions on the exams do not have clear instructions. Worst professor I have had yet.

Professor Roberts is an amazing instructor. Although attendance is not mandatory, taking notes and paying attention in class really helped. I hardly opened the book the entire semester, as most of the material was hand-outs and lectures. A great professor A++

For the final, we were told it was going to be the same format as the other exams. It was double the amount of regular multiple choice (100 MC and 2 in-class essays). At least 1/5 questions on his exams had typos and were not understandable. The research paper is 30 pages min and was the most useless busy work I've ever done. Doesn't use slides btw

He is one of the smartest people I've ever met and he tries really hard to help students understand but he talks himself in circles and tries to draw charts on the board that are incomprehensible. His tests and quizzes are based on small details mentioned in lecture once or things buried in the textbooks- its unneccesarily hard.

Dr. Roberts is really nice! Hes very self-amused and always makes class interesting. Most grades will be from quizzes and tests although there might be another few assignments. The more you go to class and listen, the easier it is to get an A. I've taken him twice now and hes a great professor! One of the most knowledgeable and nice I've had at JMU

Dr. Roberts is by far one of my favorite professors I have had at JMU and is the reason I have gone into the field I am. I HIGHLY recommend taking for PPA 265, PPA 415 and POSC 302. His lectures can sometimes be hard to follow, but if you're confused on anything he will always answer your questions! TAKE HIM!!!

Roberts is a JMU icon, I've had multiple classes with him and he is a great professor to get to know; respected and intelligent. Material can be dry and monotonous at times, but what Poli Sci class isn't? Favors engaged & inquisitive students, so pay attention. Has a great sense of humor and teaches from memory, not slides or text.

Dr Roberts is the best, he weights your highest test the most and your lowest test the least. The material is very interesting and I enjoyed the class.

Very good lectures but his notes are unclear on the board (you don't need the notes though), very clear grading structure, mandatory Friday quizzes but he drops 5 lowest (only takes 10) awesome professor overall

Roberts is alright. My biggest thing is that he has horrible handwriting. But he will always answer your questions. His tests asked somewhat super specific details so if you don't pay attention you won't pass. He's a super chill guy that is very approachable.

Roberts is extremely kooky, but somehow also one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are weird, but you remember things from his class, and really learn. Make sure to take your laptop to class and write down everything he says (no matter how trivial). Study for the quizzes, and you'll be fine!

I have had this man multiple times. Let me tell you he is a cross between Bernie Sanders and Danny DeVito. If you want to take a thought provoking class that teaches you and you some how manage to have fun take this guy. He loves UREC and talking about National ID cards. IF either of those things interest you please do yourself a favor and enroll.

He's funny guy who has been at JMU forever. He goes off on tangents and writes in chicken scratch on the board, but take good notes on the parts that are clear & you'll be fine. Attendance isn't mandatory, but show up on Fridays for the weekly quiz - study for those by skimming notes/book. Take the quizzes and study for the exams & you'll get an A!

Roberts is an ok professor. The notes he writes on the board are hard to follow but he'll always go over something if you don't understand. Quiz once a week and he drops the lowest 5, 2 exams plus a final, and a 10-page paper due at the end which isn't too bad. He's a nice guy and very approachable, I'd recommend him.

Roberts is a great guy. He is very very smart and can be funny at times. Quizzes every week based on strictly class discussion and notes, so if you go to class its easy. Tests are just slightly harder quiz questions and he even puts some quiz questions on the tests. Overall not hard and you learn a LOT of cool stuff.

he is a really nice professor and a really nice person if you ask him something he will go over it. I saw him go over a topic 3 times for a non native english speaking student. It is really easy to get a b in his 302 and 265 courses

Dr. Robert Roberts is the professor you want! He is very knowledgeable and passionate. There is a 30 page research paper but he gives all semester to do it. He is very caring and provides hilarious examples throughout class discussion. I would 100% take him again! Go to class and study for the tests and you will be sure to succeed in his class!

Comment:
Possibly the worst professor I've ever had. Tests are on abstract facts and not concepts. Dr. Roberts believes he is the smartest person in the room and acts just that way. Very condescending and combative with differing opinions/corrections. One of those people that is "never wrong". Lectures are boring and incoherent.
