I LOVE YOU MR SOSA !!!!! His free-style teaching method really entertained the whole class. His tests were extremely easy if you followed the lecture. Take home final was a little brutal but it worth the effort at the end! GREAT PROF EVER!!!

He's wonderful. I've never had another prof who is as engaged and engaging as Prof Sosa. His class made me want to do more phonetics, but I've found, in upper level courses, that nothing and no one else can equal his interest and enthusiasm.

Professor Sosa is one interesting man, he goes out of his way to encourage class discussion in a class without tutorials. But his material comes directly from the textbook and the take home midterms are EXTREMELY long (10-11 essay questions each) so if you take his class make sure you have plenty of time to write them the week before. Great class:)

In my four years at SFU, this is the only class that I've attended every single lecture. (Not even swine flu kept me away!) I love Dr. Sosa. He's extremely knowledgeable, funny, engaging, and has a very pleasant speaking voice(Venezuelan, educated in Britain). His class changed the way I look at spoken language. I would recommend him forever. <3

I really don't want to seem biased because he gave me a bad mark but I genuinely think he is a terrible professor. He's very unpredictable as you don't know what to expect on exams...at all. His marking seems unfair and my final mark just didn't seem to add up. I just don't think he is professional at what he does.

he seems to be very interesting and entertaining during class but his midterms are hardcore. also, the way he grades and unfair and he doesn't give you a chance to rechange your marks because he doesn't believe in the textbook answers.

The course is easy to understand. Midterms are fair because they are take home exam. Boring class. He likes picking on favours and only knows their names. Don't really like him but it's a mark booster course

Very entertaining teaching style, e.g. uses accents to illustrate phonetic concepts. Encourages engagement in phonetic practice, especially from those with non-English backgrounds (I wish they weren't always so shy!) Generous marker, easy assignments, fair exams, and a great guy to chat with. I highly recommend him if yr into phonetics/phonology.

Experienced phonetician,BUT certainly NOT a good teacher.Sytle:funny but pointless, unhelpful.Lecture:Poorly organized and mostly not correlated with the exams. Personality: Always pick favorites(too obvious)He is the worst ling prof because he scaled students according to his own impression. He doesn't "teach", you have to find the answers yourself!

He is one of the best professors in teaching phonology, he is so interested in this particular area. Exams were not hard, he really gives marks, always go to his office and ask questions, he is so helpful. He is a GREAT person.

Entertaining and interesting lectures, but if you want to do well in this class you've got to be highly self-motivated, cause it's -tough-. There's a lot of stuff on exams that he only mentioned in passing, so you've got to be paying very close attention.

I thought he was an easy marker. He gives part marks for answers that are somewhat related to the correct answer. The midterms were all straight from his lectures. If you attend all his lectures, you'll be fine. He does pick favorites, but it's not too bad. He won't take marks off from those who isn't one of his favorites.

He is a retard!!!!! The mid-terms are ridiculously unrelated to the lectures!!! You get good grades depends if he likes you or not...seriously. He is a disgrace to the commuity of teaching.

omg, seriously avoid him at all cost. His markings are extremely hard...he put questions on the quizzes and exams that are not even related to what we're suppose to study or learn. Not to mention, whenever you try to ask him a question during lecture...most of the time you'll end up with the answer "Huh, wtf did he just said?"
