Great teacher a little hard to understand sometimes. Had zero interest going in loved algebra and geometry going out! Would recommend this teacher. Willing to answer your questions ALWAYS. He is not a big fan of the textbook so go to class and take notes.

His lectures are brilliant and crystal clear if you speak Chinese with an English accent. But he is very knowledgeable. He was my Buddha. Great depth but I still didn't get but I think it is just me. Super hot for a 50 year old guy. Should have failed the class but got a C!!

Comment:
Hard to understand. More of a mathematician than a professor. His lectures have no real flow and he jumps from topic to topic in a way that leads to confusion. When you get lost, go to his office hours because that is where you go from hating to liking him. He is actually quite helpful there! His tests can be pretty difficult.

He's not very clear, but he's a SUPER easy marker. His tutorial style is also weird.

His notes were done fairly well but then he rushed through alot of key things and never really elaborated on it, assuming we did it last year. We had an online text that was useless. He has only 2 assignments (1 each term) and 2 exams (1 each term)...not much feedback especially when the assignments are not handed back till after the exam.

Super hard. Really hard to follow. The TA finds our material hard and this is a 2nd year course.

Lectures consisted of 1.5 hours of boring non-sense, that has no consistent pattern. The typed notes were even worse. No logical patterns, lots of mistakes, skips steps..... you get the picture. I don't know how professors like these survive tenure process!

Students looking to pass are in luck; however students looking to get an A+ should be prepared to be among the top 2-3 in the class. He is clear in his lectures, but lacks direction. Exam was one of the most brutal math exams I've written - a mess of unholy length, amalgamated from questions worth 2 points, taking a page of proof.

Know you definitions. That might actually be the only way to pass the class sometimes. The exam was brutal, but you might actually have to work to fail his class due to the crazy curve. Also, get the series of books on general topology by Kolmogorov. They explain things much better than him, and follow the same topics.

all and all, not too bad. however, he doesn't impart too much knowledge. he makes the students laugh (albeit mostly at his own expense for talking in metaphors) and sometimes rambles off topic for the entire lecture. for the exam, KNOW YOUR DEFINITIONS...more than half of the exam. the "fong curve" fails few, knowing nothing can still be a pass!

personally the ad hoc definition of the limit makes it harder to understand since it's broken into two steps, and makes learning on my own from a book harder

Comment:
Interjects lectures with bizarre Chinese proverbs - most of which involve a horse. Very poor writing on the blackboard; he once wrote diagonally for the whole lecture (kinda funny as the whole class had their necks bent at 45 degrees). Poor English, poor explanations, poor rapport with students. Avoid.

Living Proof of exactly what is wrong with the tenure system (or maybe what is right about it, depending on your viewpoint). A useless "teacher", 30+years in Canada and still hopeless in English! Learn to communicate already!!!!!!
