Tim is an amazing professor. I've had him for three different courses now and each one gets better an better. Amazing guy and quite the comedian. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend attending because of how awesome his teaching/course content is. He's got a great sense of humor.

3010: no reading quizzes, midterm or final as outlined in the syllabus. Class is very laid back and he gives good workshop feedback. 3080: no writing assignment as outlined in the syllabus. Projects are fun to complete. Doesnt take attendance but it benefits you to be there as it will help you complete projects/assignments.

Gives great feedback on papers. He wants you to read the textbook but you don't really have to, I bought it cause it's a super cheap textbook. He is really interesting and got me into writing and reading poetry. At the end of the course you will look up to Geiger. The only downside is his lectures can drag and the chairs in his lab are terrible.

I took his typography and publication class. It was really laid back and emphasis wasn't on getting good grades, but rather learning. If I could, I'd take more classes with him. He's super nice and relatable as a person. He's also goofy and understanding.

Incredible professor and human being. He's so passionate about writing - it's almost contagious. The assignments were challenging, but not impossible. I'm a better writer for taking his class. He doesn't take attendance, but if you care at all about becoming a better writer, you won't skip anyway. Brilliant guy, wicked awesome poet.

If the choice is Geiger or Arroyo, pick Geiger. He teaches poems that are not just from his boyfriend's self published book. He cares about the image instead of your right to emote. He does not always brag about how famous he is. By comparison he looks very good.

Comment:
Attempts to teach a specific style of poetry, rather than help you improve on your own. Inconsistent and only supportive of some students, rather than ALL students. Poor judge of quality poetry. If you have established your own voice, you're good to go with Tim as long as it agrees with his poetic tastes.

Tim is fantastic, is hard on students' work in workshop and can push those people who don't accpet his criticism as an attempt to make students better writers away. He is extremely passionate about poetry and about teaching poetry. His workshop will change you life (especially if you spend a large portion of it writing) if you're willing to let it.

Comment:
He's a good teacher, engaging and personable, but he can be unreliable and at times contradicts himself. Which can be irritating. Also, his end of the term grading is somewhat iffy. You don't always get what you're expecting. He sometimes has issues with your work that are reflected in your grade, but that he never mentions to you.

Tim, yes, he let's you call him Tim... is TOO hot. One pepper - not enough. Not to mention that he really loves poetry and wouldn't think twice about telling you your poetry is a bad Hallmark card. He's honest, funny and was really cool to just be around.

Tim is a decent guy but his teaching style (at least for this course) could use some work. His class had no structure! He gave the class an extra credit assignmnet, then gave Bs in the course to everyone who did not do the "extra credit" and As to everyone that did. Not fair ro structured at all!
