Comment:
Calc II with Dr. Thompson was pain. He is one of the smartest individuals I have ever encountered and also one of the best teachers. He made the content seem clear in lectures, but you need to have a deeper than thorough understanding and know all the tricks to be able to succeed on tests (which make up most of your grade). But he is very helpful.

Comment:
Dr. Thompson really likes math which makes the class interesting but he can sometimes be confusing when he starts to talk about things beyond the scope of the class. His tests can be very difficult because he sometimes has new material that he teaches on the tests. Lectures are somewhat unorganized but he gets the concepts across.

Comment:
By far the most challenging professor I had during my time at GCC. I took him my last year and he taught the basic math course. Mind you this is the department head who teaches the advance classes. We had to read and write a report. His exams were so challenging and ridiculous. My entire class got a question wrong that he never taught us. AVOID

Comment:
Dr. Thomson gives you the tools to succeed, but his class is very difficult. It seems as if he thinks that everyone loves math as much as he does, and thus has a large amount of theoretical proofs in lecture, which as an Engineer, were hard to follow. Tests were very tough, you had to be able to do more than solve problems similar to the homeworks.

Comment:
Very weird and dorky guy, your typical math professor. Very good in class with keeping attention but not always clear with what he's saying. Don't be afraid to see him after class about an idea you don't understand but he is somewhat awkward one-on-one. He is very helpful one-on-one though and works to make sure you understand the material.

Dr. Thompson is a rather difficult professor and his classes require a lot of work. However, he is extremely good at developing your intuition and is extremely helpful. I do not know if I have ever had a professor who was that good at explaining the material. Furthermore, if you understand the material you will get a good graade.

Dr. Thompson is a great teacher--excellent at explaining difficult concepts and all too eager to help in office hours. I personally enjoyed his goofy personality and dorky math jokes, but I?m sure many didn?t. His tests are hard and he RARELY curves. You must understand the material very well, work fast, and apply concepts creatively to do well.

This man could make a even the dumbest people learn complex mathematics, seriously, intelligence is rewarded, if you are whiney and stupid you wont like him, but if you want to learn and anctually have an interest in his class, you will pass, best test giver i have ever had

The best professor I've ever had -- I took him for calculus over the summer at VCU many years ago, before graduate school. It was one of the greatest experiences imaginable. I'm now an extremely popular teaching faculty member, all thanks to Gary Thompson's masterful pedagogical techniques and incredible vision for teaching mathematics.

Great prof, really wants students to learn the material. People who enjoy math will love his class and his dorky jokes :-). Tests aren't too bad as long as you understand the concept behind the math.

Took Abstract Algebra 5+ years ago when I was a Grove City student. Well I highly recommend Dr Thompson's classes, they stretch your mind and teach you to reason. It will pay off. And he teaches really well, clearly loves the topic, really gives you every possible chance to master the material. Just return the favor and work hard!

least favorite professor i have ever had. take anyone else that you can. is unfair and doesnt know how to test, thinks an average score of 69 on a test is good. cant believe the college is still employing him.

He knows his stuff and he knows how to teach. His tests questions often seem tricky but are generally fairly easy if you look at the questions the right way. He gives lots of partial credit, unlike Dean and Allgaier, and is entertaining.

Comment:
Excellent teacher, terrible tester. If at all possible, take this class with another professor but sit in on his class as often as possible. You will learn a lot with him, but your grades on his tests will not necessarily reflect it.
