Honestly, I don't understand the bad reviews. In my opinion, he is one of the nicest, well-respected Professors in the Finance Department. Yeah, the material may be dry in the way its presented but as long as you look over Power-points and do the few assignments he assigns, overall, its an easy A type of class!

Nice man, bad teacher. His exams hardly matched his slides or lectures.

Took this class for the buad minor. He's a really nice teacher who wanted us to do well, especially because it was an intro course. Class structure was really confusing, no sakai page, never see the grades, don't know what percent of anything will make up your final grade. Class wasn't necessary just memorize the info in the chapters to do well

Tim is a very nice guy. His class is very hard (2 midterms all open-ended questions). Class is irrelevant, you have to teach the material all to yourself. I got an A in 311, an he made the material very hard to understand. Nice guy buy take a look at other options.

RUN AWAY! (this is coming from a 4.0 student that will probably get an A in his class, 100% on midterm consider that). Also, you will learn more about computer history (great if you are also taking MISY160 :D) than actual finance (you will end up teaching everything yourself). Oh, and his 1970 mainframe had an 8inch floppy and ran at 4 Megahertz...

He isn't a good teacher but he certainty has a heart of gold as he is willing to help all the time. In class is bad, he goes through slides so fast I stopped taking notes after a while. And if he's not teaching, he's rambling on about something unrelated. Also, he doesn't give back things you turn in. I wouldn't recommend him as a teacher

He is a great professor. Exams are very challenging. 1 presentation and 1 written project worth 50% combined. It's a good class but you have to work very hard for even a B.

Do not take Intermediate Finance with him. He does not teach! Half of your grade is the cases (1 presentation, 1 paper). He randomly lectures during class with no organization or structure. The midterm and final are each 7-8 ch of material. The only way to study is off these "cases," which students present, so exams are impossible. Dont take him!

The class is extremely boring and he goes through slides to fast to write them down. However, he does send out all slides which are really useful for studying off of. I never go to class except for case says because they're mandatory and still do fine. The cases also help to bring up your grade if you do poorly on the 2 tests.

He's a pretty nice guy, but you'll realize he is quite lazy and incompetent. 2 tests and 3 cases. He grades the first exam and case very easily but never handed back the last two cases back until the day of the final. Average was 20-25 points lower than midterm average. EVERYONE had a lower grade than they expected. He didn't seem to understand

Extremely nice guy. Sometimes too fast and ahead of the class (considering this is an intro class). Very knowledgeable and flexible. Fair but not easy tests.

One of the few professors I have ever had who makes you feel like he legitimately cares about you, not just himself. Tests are very straightforward. Do the end of chapter minicases and you will have no problem with exams.

I took Detwiler over a summer ses and was pleasantly surprised. He used power point slides from the author which became a little boring but he explained the topics well. The exams consisted of long problems and multiple choice questions so doing as many of the homework problems helped a lot (but he never checked or collected the hw).
