The legend has retired. We will miss you Dr. Murphy. You were my best teacher. When I do my PhD, I will follow your steps. You're a role model of how a lecturer should be, talk, treat students, and everything else beyond. Thank you for this class and for this life changing experience.

Dr. jhm is the best professor you will have opportunity to learn from. Other comments are quite accurate. I really think that Dr. Murphy's class was the greatest thing which happened to me in college. I barely got a B, but he taught me more than any other professor and helped me to develop skills I wouldn't think I have. I hope he's doing great!

Dr. Murphy has inspired me for life. I haven't had either better, and tougher lecturer so far. I withdrawn first time I took his class, but the second time I got over 95%! This class was like a full time job (literally) but it payed off. If I will continue my education and I will do PhD, I want to be a professor like Dr. Murphy. Thank you Dr. JHM!

Dr. Murphy is the best professor you may ever take. He cares about you, and he makes sure you know it. His class may also be one of the hardest you will ever take, I'm on round two. Take Murphy! He is interesting and funny, the other guy goes through slides at the speed of light and is kind of boring. Just go to class, take good notes, and read.

Dr. Murphy is the best professor I took so far. Even it was hard, I am so glad I took his class (twice - first time I dropped). If every professor would be like him, there would not be time to study, but the world would be changed. If you are a lazy students, avoid. If you are ambitious, take him. (btw. Wilcox is boring!)

Great professor, REALLY hard class! Be sure you're reading the textbook and studying throughout the ENTIRE class. The tests are crazy hard and there's not many buffer assignments.

Ok, in all honesty, Dr. Murphy's class is HARD. His tests are incredibly detailed over lectures AND text books. Sometimes it seemed overwhelming. BUT if you put in the effort to study correctly, and study with a good group it is POSSIBLE. He's a great teacher and probably one of the best I've ever had. I thought it was worth it. best of luck

He is incredibly engaging, has fantastic lectures and is overall a great guy. His tests are tough and detailed, but they aren't unfair. You just have to study early and often.

He's a cool guy, but the exams are impossible and unfair. Some of the questions were over things that didn't matter, like the titles of paragraphs. He actually said that he liked to see students come back and take his class again if that helps you have an idea of what kind of professor he is.

If you want to get an A in this class and on his tests you have to start studying at least 2 weeks in advance. He expects you to know EVERY LAST detail. You can't blink during his lectures. You have to read the book in EXTREME detail. Its ridiculous. However, he is a very nice guy and the lectures are very engaging.

WARNING: Hard class. Captivating lectures. Exams are detailed!!! Read your textbook and write out the guideline notes. Murphy makes no exceptions on grades for missed exams or labs. Do not skip this class and expect to get by. Borrowing someones notes won't make up for missing the lecture. One of the best classes at Texas! Murphy is an excellent professor.

You have to study & read the book. He is clear about telling you what will NOT be on the test, but everything else is fair game. The tests are hard, & you have to study. During lectures, he would bring in occasionally guest speakers (such as the co-creator of Old Spice commercials.) I really enjoyed this class even though there was a lot of work.

He is useless - it's his TAs that do everything. You literally have to write every single thing he says in class down and memorize it or you will fail the tests. He is insanely hard, unnecessarily so, and while the material was soooo interesting to me before the class, I don't really want to do it anymore because all you do is stress in his class

He is the most unhelpful professor I have ever met in my college years. Unhelpful and not understanding of student's situation. He is a great lecturer fun lessons but that is it. Beyond that, he serves no purpose. Avoid him.

Best professor I've ever had. He's unbelievably organized & gives you everything you need to succeed. Class isn't boring because he has an amazing way of keeping you interested. Key to success: take notes in class, read the book, & don't skip class or lab. If you find yourself unmotivated to attend class, maybe advertising/pr isn't for you.

This class made me want to be an advertising major. I barely missed the A by about 6 points on his grading scale which is equivalent to about .7 on a 100 point scale. If you study like a college student should for a test then you can get an A... it's all about memorization really and pay attention to side notes in the book.

I would recommend going to the the lectures every day, taking notes, and definitely definitely using his textbook notes as a guide. Don't forget to go over the worksheets he hands out, because those will be on the test. He's a really really nice person, and he genuinely wants everyone to succeed, so if you talk to him, he'll help you.

pay attention to everything that he says. All the tests are made up of very specific questions from the lecture that don't really test if you know anything, but rather if you can remember all the tedious minutia that is his lecture. There were some interesting parts of the class and it wasn't too bad. It isn't very hard as long as you have a good memory. He is a nice guy, but the tests are ridiculous.
