Nice person, he always happy to help students, Kinda a lots of reading for one semester, but if you go to class regularly, you probably understand the materials without reading it. Overall, he is knowledgeable, helpful, kindness, understandable ect,,it was great semester to learn many cultures from Dr Conway.

Dr. Conway is a great professor if you really want to learn in the class that you're taking. If you want an easy A, look elsewhere because you will have to work for your grade. If that doesn't matter to you, I would definitely recommend him as he is passionate about what he teaches and is willing to help however he can.

Loves to talk, may go off topic frequently, but eventually gets back to subject matter. Tests are multiple choice and essay format based on books. Lots of reading, but he does prepare study guides. Not the hardest, but you do have to work for your grade and show up to class for participation points. Is also very helpful.

He was pretty easy to understand even though he rambles sometimes. There's a lot of reading, but most of it is interesting and he goes over it in lecture and makes summary notes. He knows a lot about the material and injects his own personal experiences. Pretty cool guy.

All the ratings below have some truth. There is a lot of reading to do. However the guy also rambles a tremendous amount. He tests from the books and grades harshly. Don't take an early morning class with him, it amplifies the confusion. You know its bad when Anthro majors aren't doing well in the class. People frequently left early en masse.

A great and interesting professor. Knows his stuff. A lot of work if you are just taking it to meet an exploration requirement. Three large tests that go along with three novels you MUST read, and a 10 page research paper. Great if you are interested in anthro.

They don't make anthropology teachers like this anymore. Conway is a quality product, born too late, typical of those "old school" anth teachers you'd get from Boston in the 1930s who had scraggly bears and tweed jackets with leather patches who would take three weeks off during the semester to do some field work in Chile. An interesting class.

Nice guy. Not too boring if you like anthro. A little busy work because you have to read the books to be able to do the review questions. Or you could just wait till he hands out the review and look in the books for the answers. Tests arent too hard but you got to know your anthro.

Tough to follow, but a very helpful person. His lectures are a bit unclear because he has trouble getting his point across, but an interesting class anyway.

This professor is great, he's like Robin Williams. If you read the books you will do well on tests. The paper sucks.Lectures are interesting and he really tries to listen to student feedback on the class.Books are not always interesting but you need to read them.3 tests, a 8-10pg paper, final w/ essay

This was the best class ive ever taken. Conway is a good teacher. People just don't like him cause hes kind of strange. and he's always late. But if you are at all interested in socio-linguistics, or language in general, this class is for you.

Intersting and challenging, but wasn't exactly back breaking. The lectures and loose, interesting, and welcome to discussion BUY THE BOOKS and read them and you'll be fine. Tests are pretty basic. Don't sweat the paper it's average. Someone asked for a week extension and the class got one!

He is so monotonous and STUDDERS constantly. And he's supposed to teach a LANGUAGE class??1? He is unclear about what he wants...this broke my 4.0 at SDSU - and I didn't even get a B+...I got a B and worked my BUTT off...
