Comment:
He's just not logical. He grades inconsistently, and you'll spend more times on the exams trying to figure out what his question means then how to answer it. You'll also never get a straight answer from him. His ecology class could be so interesting but it needs to be taught by someone who can teach logically and grades fairly.

JT is fantastic. His exams are hard and his lecture slides are only pictures, so GO TO CLASS! He's hysterical and is always there for students outside of class. He let me take my exam almost a week late when I asked, and answered any and all questions I had. Really god guy and someone to get to know if you're in the field!

Do not take this class unless you have already taken multiple ecology or NR classes. The lectures have nothing to do with the exams and they are boring.

JT is a really nice guy, but his class is hard. You really have to go to every lecture to even think about passing his exams, which are worded very weirdly and pretty difficult, regardless of how much you study. Also, you can ask a million questions and never get a straight answer from him. Very intelligent but does not know how to teach.

He's really weird and sometimes his jokes were offensive. He's super passionate about ecology, though. Definitely go to class and take good notes because reviewing his lectures for exams are pointless. They're basically all pictures and no words. He also criticizes the book so go by what he says for exams!

JT is very intelligent, but his exams are extremely random. I learned the hard way that if you don't take extensive notes from what he says in class (there are pretty much no helpful powerpoints) then you will not do well. This is one of those classes with only exams and lab to make your grade. No homework, no clicker questions, nothing. Avoid.

He is a terrible teacher. He needs to retire. None of his assignments makes sense and his exams are extremely confusing. I would not take a class with him ever again. Please avoid if you can!

Awesome guy. Makes boring lectures fun with a lot of jokes and cool pictures. His tests questions are out of left field sometimes, but if you study the main points he focuses on in class and put it on the test, you'll get a good grade easily. Definitely recommend him.

He's a really funny old man but when it comes to assignments and lectures I find him extremely confusing. He has a really strange way of wording assignments that makes them take way longer than they should to understand. Also, his lectures have little to no structure which make them hard to follow. Maybe he was better a couple years ago...

J.T. was an awesome teacher. If you attend lectures and take notes, you will pass with flying colors. His test reviews are irrelevant, but they are ALWAYS on class notes. I never had a problem. His "old man" comments will have you laughing every time. Highly recommend for birds class.

He definitely made lectures interesting. He was really nice, and funny in a lame kind of way. The tests were difficult and he wasn't clear on why he took points off.

He is not a bad teacher, but he is not the best either. His review exams don?t help at all because nothing from it will appear on the real exam.

Avoid. Based on the comments, I think JT's interest in teaching has waned as he nears retirement. Doesn't respond to emails trying to set up office hours (he has hours by appointment only). Once you catch him, he's helpful. But no test reviews, no practice problems, and tricky tests. I wouldn't call his grading casual either, it's pretty strict now

Really cool guy and has tons of knowledge (so if he goes of on a tangent it can be rather insightful). Always sang to our class on Mondays to get us motivated about Mondays. Tests are rather difficult and conceptual but with effort and his casual/easy grading an A is very possible.

jt is a nice person, but not the best professor. it seems like the class is going to be a breeze, but after the first exam (with almost the whole class failing miserably) it becomes clear that it's not so easy. the questions on the test involve interpreting what he lectures about (which is dull). it takes FOREVER for him to hand back graded tests.

personality wise hes a nice guy but he makes the class seem easy but then words questions purposely confusing and hard on the test to make you "think" and every answer is either right or wrong no partial credit. boring class...effort does not pay off.
