Don't take this class unless it's absolutely necessary for your degree. This is a ridiculously hard 100 level class for no reason. There are no PowerPoints, only lectures. He tests on literally ANYTHING in all of the assigned chapters of the textbook. if you spell a word wrong by one letter on a test, the whole answer is wrong. Don't do it.

Just talks all class and doesn't give a presentation. Very dull and boring especially online. Don't recommend this class at all if you want a passing grade. 2 essays, 2 tests, and a final are the only grades. Teaches like its the 1980s

To say Anthony Santoro is a distinguished professor is a very misleading statement. He is in fact distinguished amongst some of the worst professors ever. For this class, he requires an ungodly amount of work for a 300 level class. My 400 level class was far easier than this. He expects far too much. Don't take this class if you care ab your sanity

I feel bad giving him a low rating because he truly is a great guy. he definitely cares a lot about the university and his students. However, he still teaches like it's the 80s. His lectures have no PowerPoint or slides to go along with it so it's definitely not ideal for visual learners. You HAVE to do the readings from the study guide to pass

I cant speak for his in-person classes, but his virtual lectures are SO dry. Im not sure he even has a real plan for what he wants to talk about each dayhell go off on long tangents and then be like oh you dont need to know any of that. Theres no slides to supplement lectures, just his monotone voice.

Professor Santoro is not an easy professor, but he is an excellent one. I took Ancient Egypt with him, and I learned a lot about a civilization with which I was not previously familiar. Santoro expects you to read and attend lectures, as well as write to the best of your abilities, but rest assured that he is very helpful outside of class.

I read the reviews before starting his class and I was expecting him to be mean and fail everyone. That couldnt be further from the truth. Santoro treats his students like adults and cares about their success. He grades tough but leaves good feedback so you can improve in the future. I ended his course with an A-! Loved his class and lectures

Dr. Santoro is a one of a kind professor. Is he tough? Absolutely. There are no power points in his class and reading the textbook/ taking detailed notes is crucial to passing. However, He really cares about forming his students into competent adults who know how to think for themselves. As long as you are willing to put in the work, you'll pass.

Dr. Santoro seems like a nice person, but he is not a good professor. He doesn't use Scholar to put grades online, so you have no idea if you're passing. He also made the tests incredibly difficult. The only way he teaches is by lecturing. He talks fast and you have to rush to take good notes before he changes topics.

Professor Santoro told us at the beginning of the semester to not read his Rate my Professor because the students "hate" him. I honestly believed that his class was going to be the most difficult one on my schedule, but reading my textbook and definitely studying the word lists he provides definitely made my life easier so I'd reccomend the same!

I absolutely LOVED professor Santoro! He's a sweet old guy who isn't afraid to make jokes about his age. I heard that he is tougher on freshmen but I took his film class as a junior and adored him. If you go to office hours he offers you tea and homemade cookies. As long as you pay a minimal amount of attention you will do great. Only 5 assignment.

Dr. Santoro is very passionate about history, and his lectures reflect that. However, be ready to write an amazing Book Review, then turn it in early, and don't expect much feedback. There were 3 or 4 tests, including the Midterm and Final. The tests got better as the semester went on, although the essay portion remained extremely difficult.
