I would not be an engineer today without this man to help me so many years ago. Yes he was hard. But for the students who really want to learn it, he is there. I failed his class once, and took him again for the same class. Thank you Professor Barnes, I am a Civil engineer today because of all the times you spent with me in your office at school.

Some people are just not born to teach and he's one of them. He is very smart and knows what he's talking about. However, he lacks patience and is just a rude person. He's very moody and lets his emotions affect the way he teaches. Whenever students ask for help, he either makes them feel dumb, or goes into his "future scientists" speech. Avoid plz

Whether you are usually an A student, or usually a C student, avoid this guy at all costs. He has total attitude, pours over your lab reports looking for opportunities to take points off, and insinuates that you're a moron no matter how bright you are. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

i like him. he's just straightforward. if you follow his syllabus, you'll do fine. just read the experiment prior to class so you can know how to connect things or else he wont help you. study the major things for his lab final

I have only been taking Physics for 1 week and I have him for lab. I have to say, he is a complete A**Hole. He does not help students learn, he lectures, hands out papers and then lets you wing it. Then, if you do something wrong, he doesn't help you correct it, he lectures you and how dumb you are for not reading carefully enough. What a waste

Retaking this course at another school. Barnes was HORRIABLE He treated my like I was stupid! He should not be a teacher & he gives the physics dept at CSUSB a bad rap. Yes Physics is a hard subject but can be managable with a professor who is respected by his/her students. Go somewhere else with a professor who cares about teaching this subject.

Many of us are pre-med, and training to be doctors. We need to learn how to deal with difficult people. Many of us believe we should be spoon-fed information. I don't want these people to be my doctors. :D That being said, he's a jerk if you play helpless, and misogynistic, and it's kind of hilarious. Good luck. Be brave and you'll do well.

Worst personality, he treats students and other professors very disrespectfully. Needs to learn how to deal with people and he needs to learn patience. Advice: just don't take him. You will learn just as much from a lab TA without all the arrogance and pettiness.

I had this professor for lab. DO NOT TAKE HIM EVER!!!! Those students that gave him even a slightly high rating are doing the rest of you an injustice! He is the worst professor ever. He should not be a professor here or anywhere. Hes rude and does not help with anything. He really needs to be fired. DO NOT EVER TAKE THIS GUY!!!!! NEVER!

still have him as a professor & would say he is the worst professor I have ever had.thinks everyone learns the same and makes u feel bad for asking a question in class. Don't understand why he is a prof. because he doesn't seem to like teaching very much. He assigns homework out of the book but he is constantly criticizing the book and the author.

Had him for the summer and wanted to rip my hair out every day. Do not go to lecture buy the book and just read it! Save yourself from being embarrassed. I also had him in lab. Left during lab didn't follow lab manual made up his own, can't talk to other classmates. Be smart and take him after fall he is retiring.

Don't do this to yourself. I am glad that he enjoys his subject but as a teacher he is atrocious. You should be able to enter a class and know what you need to do in order to do well. It is not worth the ulcer or the low self esteem you will suffer trying to prep for his tests only to fail. I'm a good student and he is the worst I've ever had.

Barnes' system consists of filter out bs physics and teaching you what is necessary. He knows most of us are non-engineering majors so he prepares us for standardized tests mainly. Do your homework regularly and attend class! There is a lot of self teaching required in Physics b/c it isnt a very simple subject to teach.

Worst teacher I've ever had, easily. Cannot teach or reach students. Called our class stupid for not understanding him. Insecure and egomaniacal. Teaches with no numbers but he cannot teach the concepts either. Tells students material is not on the test and then tests it. I strongly recommend taking with someone else or some other course.

This class is hard and some people hate Barnes. He doesn't believe in holding your hand. He expects you to figure some stuff out on your own. Believes you learn by doing & not watching someone else do. He appreciates those he knows are working hard. It's tough but I think it's an ok philosophy of learning.

Awesome class! I am not a physics major but taking this class to satisfy a requirement is worth it. The subject is very interesting and the professor keeps it interesting. I have to admitt it isnt easy considering we only had a midterm and a final to justify our grade-its alot of pressure. He is very helpful n wants u to succeed! =)Take Barnes.

Class is completely conceptual, meaning NO NUMBERS! He goes off on tangents alot and behaves rudely to those who ask questions in class. He's really smart and knows what he's doing, but CANNOT teach. 55-70% is a C, so take your chances or go to a JC.

Interesting Class. However he spends too much time talking about "interesting" physics and not enough on what you need to know for his test. If you like physics, you'll like his class. If you're just trying to get your GE req. look elsewhere.

I feel like beating my head against a wall after the midterm. I studied for over 20 hours, which I normally do not have to study for tests, and still walked out of the classroom knowing I failed the test. What a joke! I think a little guidance as to what is on the midterm would have been the least the professor could have done.

Spends most of lecture going off on tangents. Lecture rarely prepares students for exam. If you take this class, study the book yourself. It is not an easy "A".
