WORST PROF AT GUELPH!!! He does not care about his students and does not take the time to make sure you are understanding the lecture materials. Gives snarky remarks when you ask him any time of question regarding the lecture material. STAY AWAY FROM HIS CLASSES

Honestly, the course he teaches is a tough course in which he makes you work for it. He is a good professor but because the course is so tough, not many people like him. I for one like him, he was always joking and tried to make the course enjoyable. He works well one on one with students and he isn't a bad teacher just teaches a tough course.

Absolutely terrible prof doesn't care about the students will not take time to answer questions and just tells you to learn the material on your own if you don't understand it. The assignments for this class were the absolute worst, you basically have to be a statistician and computer programer to understand them and he gives no additional guidance

Dr. Fryxell is one of the few profs whose expertise I sincerely respect. He is a very good communicator but he does not have patience for questions which he thinks are stupid. He is incredibly smart and a bit scary but is a great scientist and speaker.

I agree with the comments before mine. He totally snuck a question with Lefkovitch matrices...We didn't do them and they were not assigned in our readings. I studied soo long for the exam and knew so much about derivations and isocline analysis, and there was one random question about isoclines. Typical Guelph professor: they just cant write exams

Comment:
Don`t take pop ecology with him. He wrote the textbook (which has close to nothing to do with the class) so you have to read his work. He`s incredibly rude. When you talk to him he won`t even make eye contact with you. Just wrote the exam. 3/17 questions were on things that were nowhere near talked about in class or in assigned text readings.

Probably the best prof i've had so far. Definitely intimidating and does requires you to pay attention, but his passion and intelligence for what he is teaching comes through during lectures. I was super intimidated initially by all the math in the course but by the end it wasn't so bad. Read the textbook to make sure you understand the material!

Absolutely useless. Does not believe in courselink. Lecture slides are mostly pictures of animals and not helpful. I asked for some practice questions to help my understanding of the course- He told me it was "beyond his duty as a professor". Obsessive about the textbook. (He wrote it!)

great prof. Extremely knowledgeable in his field and actually (if any of the other people who left comments had checked) one of the leading population ecologists in the world. Guelph is lucky to have him.

Dr. Fryxell is not very helpful. When I was in his class he actually reprimanded a student who was not paying attention as if we were in grade school. I agree with the comment that he makes simple concepts seem difficult.
