Great professor, took Distance education so didnt have much time face to face. But still took time to do exam and final assignment reviews. Assignment criteria and instruction can be a bit vague. His TAs graded like jerks but when he graded it was fair but generous.

Avoid if you don't live in Guelph. I live 5 hours from campus and this course extremely unaccessible if you can't visit the library. Almost all of the readings are only available physically. One of his 2 assignments required you to use an online source that only one student could view at a time. Hard to believe we paid full price for this.

Love this man! I would recommend taking one of his upper year classes because he's much more approachable in small classes. It's obvious once you meet him how smart he is and he knows his stuff but is also not too hard of a marker. He'll pick your essay apart and make you think you deserve a 50 but actually give you a 90!

I received a poor grade on a paper, went in to try to learn how to improve as a 1st year student, I was so nervous to go to office hours. He did let me re submit for re grading & did give me pointers but said "yeah I don't care what you're in, a ___ isn't good enough" cause that is what I needed to hear. Made me never want to talk to a prof again.

A super super nice guy who seems like he really wants you to succeed. He's a easy marker and is happy to help you out a lot with papers and assignments, the only problem is he's not a great lecturer. He's kind of quiet but it's obvious he's super passionate about his work. 100% would take a class with him again cause he's just so nice

Professor Goddard was my favourite professor in first year. I had taken his class as an elective and received a good grade despite not attending all lectures. The research paper was heavily weighted but the weekly quizzes were a good way to bring up marks. Prof. Goddard is hilarious and remembers many students names and conversations. Great prof.

Cares about what he's teaching and tried to make it as fun as he could. Gave the whole class a chance to make up midterm grades and is a real gem.

He's absolutely the stereotypical absent-minded professor, but he's a good teacher and a very nice guy. Side note: he calls powerpoints 'powerpuffs.' Still not sure if he's kidding or not.

Peter Goddard is clearly passionate about history, and really enjoys talking about the subject matter. I didn't always find the instructions for tests/papers super clear, and the marking was pretty tough. That could be more of a TA issue though.

Never studied history before, and I absolutely love this class. Goddard is incredibly smart in his field, and is very able to deliver the course material in a clear way. Lectures are solid and he is happy to answer questions. The textbook is quite big but easy enough to read. I would recommend this course and prof any day.

His lectures are very engaging, he clearly knows what he's talking about. He's also extremely enthusiastic when he speaks and gets very excited about the material he's talking about. Overall, a great speaker, I was generally excited to go to his classes. However, his course is not an easy one and you have to make sure you're prepared for a essay.

Comment:
The lectures were really long and boring, and material discussed wasn't really important. Almost all information came from the textbook and from seminars. Lectures were random and scattered, ended up not going to most near the end of the course. Found midterm and test hard as some questions were barely covered, with no review provided.

Monotonous talker, goes on tangents sometimes but it is clear he is passionate about history. Lectures don't always relate to textbook/exams. Seminars are essential for this course, much more so than lecture

I absolutely loved this course, but I'm a big fan of history. Goddard's lecture are really random and you don't need to attend them to pass the course, only went because of the iclickerz questions. Midterm and final only focused on larger concepts, very fair in my opinion. Research paper was the most difficult, but TA's are very helpful with it.

Prof knew all about what he was teaching, and his lectures were detailed, but additional notes as he talks should help more. Always there for assistance with assignments or questions. TA's were great too. Overall great class and I would definitely take again!
