Prof Beecher was honestly one of my favourites of the semester. I am confused at the comments that he was hard to contact because whenever I reached out he was sure to give me a response within 24 hours, even on weekends. He grades fast and is very obviously in love with his field. Content was interesting as long as you love to read

Not the class for those looking for an easy A, however if you came to university to learn and not only for the degree this class and others of Beecher's are a must. If you are willing to put in the work you can take a lot away from this course and from this prof who's very well versed in what he teaches. WORTH IT

Professor Beecher is a great guy, and has a lot of great stories to tell, but for a professor, his lectures tend to be quite confusing. He goes off topic and as students you get confused on whats relevant. Overall was a bad experience with COVID-19 as he wasnt as accommodating and accessible due to him not using technology.

No hw, except mountains of readings. No tests, projects, but a 50/50 essay and exam at the end of the semester. Not accessible. Difficult to communicate with. Did not look forward to going to class but did every single week bc I didn't have time to do the full readings. compared to other profs, not caring. Ya'll, just don't.

Hey, look, if you want to take a class that feels like you're learning in the pre-internet world, if you think your peers are "sheltered" millennials and Gen-Xers, take his classes. If you want to read outdated, irrelevant texts and analyze them through the lens of a middle-class white man. By all means, please do. Not a modern class.

Probably one of the worst profs Ive ever had. There is a final essay and exam both worth 50%, a week apart. Not on culearn and no feedback for essays. Lectures are boring and hard to stay focused. The exam was only critical analysis and he made the exam harder because of COVID-19. when I asked what will be on exam He said that notes won' help.

I do not think that this prof is someone who is a good fit for those who are mentally ill like me. He likes things in hard copy, he doesn't do any online access (his outline isnt on CULearn, its on the english dept. website) and if you miss classes often, you may be perpetually lost. In short, he's not accessable as you may need.

Goes on wild tangents that have nothing to do with the assigned material. One of the most toughest graders on campus. Very old school (not in the good way). And reading list was as boring as he could make it. VERY religious reading list, heavy religious focus in this class. Annoying.

Amazing professor in the sense that he is engaging and has a lot of knowledge to share. Tackles the classic, which is wonderful if you love reading. Unfortunately he gets off topic a lot and does not give a lot of guidance in the way of exam prep.

Beecher is an outstanding professor who will open your mind to the world of literature if you are willing to take the time (he's willing to give it). He has very new school ideas on old school movements which are very enlightening and exciting in a world of closed-minded individuals. Whoever complains about this man is lazy and incompetent.

Beecher is a very interesting, brilliant person who knows something about everything. However, I never knew how I was doing throughout his class since he NEVER returned ANY grades to his students. I had to wait until I got my final grade on Carleton Central. I still have no idea how I did on my essay or my two seminar presentations...

This class was the first class I've ever had to drop due to the fact I felt as if I wasn't learning anything. He often goes off topic and makes false generalizations. Not only that but it was clear that one of the books in the course was only added because he'd edited it. I hope he retires soon.

Only take his class if you're truly interested in early BritLit, already have some knowledge of early BritLit, and can and enjoy independently reading/researching/learning about BritLit. He provides little to no guidance in class so it's really all up to you to learn about the topic elsewhere. Hard marker of essays & gives you no prep for exam

Awesome prof. loved the man, but he is very old school in some of his opinions, yet surprisingly contemporary in other. He's not perfect, but other than just being bitter, I don't understand why anyone wouldn't love his classes.

Professor Beecher is absolutely brilliant! If you let him, he will open your eyes to the world of literature! He gives meaning to why we study it, and is a dynamic, engaging lecturer. Though he struggles to stay on focus, and gives little instruction for exam prep, he is what an English professor SHOULD be!

Very amusing and incredibly knowledgeable. It's worth noting that his lectures are unfocused and rambling, and that their main attempt is to suggest essay topics rather than to provide direct study suggestions. You can get by in this course using only your own analysis, but you won't read all of the texts anyway, so go to class.
