A most thorough, clear, and nice professor. Lectures are worth attending! He covers the material inside and out and weaves his work into the course seamlessly.

Boring, just reads from the lecture notes which is given to you. Go 2 class but play on your phone. Pay attention the last 3 Classes before an exam (Tells you whats on the exam). He wants specific answers know his lecture notes inside and out. Test are all open ended. 1st exam was hard, rest easy. If u put in medium effort you should get a B+, A-

Comment:
Buy the notes packet. Lectures are dry because he reads directly from the notes (has some interesting anecdotes to share about himself and research experience in Kinshasa). Grading largely depends on whether TAs are generous or not. His grading is fair if you ask him to review your answers. Do well on the hw and exams will be okay (essay-based).

Reads directly from lecture notes, SO boring. Don't go to class, do the homework, and study for the exams, and you'll be fine.

Boring as hell. All he does is read from lecture notes so you don't even need to go to class. Homeworks are long but if you do them right you'll ace the tests.

Comment:
Class was extremely easy, mostly due to the overlap of the homework into the exams. I admit he can be a little boring in lectures but I found it to be interesting many times. I felt he was very fair and generous with grading

Comment:
I took econ 315 with him and it was fairly easy. There were only 3 homework assignments and the exams were pretty much synonymous with the homework, but he is pretty nit-picky when it comes to grading. His lectures are incredibly boring. If I had one hour left to live I would spend it in his class because an hour feels like a lifetime.

Stay away from this professor. The book he uses is very confusing. His lecture is horrible. He is a nice guy though, but for sure not a good teacher.

Guy was extremely condescending and extremely boring. He is stuck in the 1980's and reads off a paper word for word. you do not need to go to his class unless you want to fall asleep. his exams are extremely hard. i studied my ass off and had tons of trouble. his essay assignments are strenuous and take an unnecessary long time to complete.

David Shapiro is one of the greatest prof that ever taught me. he's smart, makes econ fun and interesting, if you're interested in econ and you read the material you'll get the A. his exams needs someone who understands the subject and reads the notes and the text, his review sessions are always identical to the exam so be there.

Know the textbook!! All tests/quizzes come directly from the text. (In fact, they're written by the publisher.) He's a bit condescending, and there's no structure for self-teaching or studying. I found him intolerant to beginners and their questions..

Made exams really difficult by testing on material not covered in lecture, required you to read the book to get a decent grade, lectured on a lot of non-important information and if you missed a class you were basically screwed

He does a good job of keeping you awake with some goofy stories that interrupt teaching some dry, boring material. Exams are VERY difficult and require some steep curving. He is very anal about grading the writing assignments, but if you do a rough draft and follow his corrections for the final draft, you should get an A on it.
