Comment:
Gives little to no guidance on papers. "Write a 6 page paper on X." That is all he says, no other guidance. Final grade calculated on three separate 6 page papers, and the final paper. Gives little to no feedback regarding your grade. Grades harsh. Never gives out A's. He is available during the final and willing to answer questions. Awful Prof.

DO NOT TAKE. Will ignore your emails and gives almost NO instruction on any of the assignments. You will never get feedback with your grades and I honestly am not sure if he even reads our papers. 4pg paper due EVERY Friday on the Wall Street Journal. Barely lectures. I have never been more stressed about a class in my whole life.

Professor Dunn is the worst professor I have had at URI so far. He gives essays with very little explanation. There are no tests and participation counts. The final is a very confusing case study worth 50% of your grade. Definitely would not take.

Whatever class he teaches is more him talking about whatever he wants in the news. That said, he has a great perspective on the world and will help you question what you know and teach you about the behind-closed-doors reality of Wall Street. Participation is by far the most important thing. Also terrible at writing on white boards.

Dudes a pretty tough grader, but if you participate in class and go to office hours he will help you. Pushes students a little too hard sometime but he knows what he's talking about and wants you to try and learn everything he knows. He's a tough grader but you can negotiate with him. Go to class so you're not behind

John Dunn is the worst professor at URI. Lectures have no clear purpose and flips when students don't know about every single business event with great detail. He's also the hardest grader I've ever had. Avoid this man like the plague.

Could not have been a worse class - went to his office hours, participated every single class, and got good grades on the papers, but still ended the class with a B- due to his pointless final debate, which he thinks actually has ties to the real world (it doesn't). Ignore the good reviews, he is completely unfair and doesn't care about effort.

One of the worst experiences in my educational career - if you are an organized and dedicated student, beware, because he has no grading criteria, changes assignment due dates on a whim, and puts everything into a final pass/fail debate that can absolutely ruin your grade. I put hours of work and effort into this class that I'll never get back.

While Professor Dunn is most certainly not for everyone, I learned more about the world we live in during his class than I have in any other. He makes you fight for your grade (he doesn't "boost" them), and frequent participation is your most valuable tool to achieve success in his class. An invaluable educational experience from a brilliant man.

Dunn is amazing. Use your intellect, if you don't like speaking, don't take this class. PARTICIPATION IS MOST IMPORTANT IN THIS CLASS. a handful of 6 pg papers, but be honest and dig deep for it. Pick his brain for knowledge, very smart, and become friends with the smartest, outgoing students for final project. Top professor in my college career

I took Dunn on two different occasions, Business Law and Intro to Business. Knows a lot about the business world. Wants people to participate. Assigns papers as assignments and has a long paper as a final. Very approachable outside of the classroom. He's a great professor and you will learn a lot in his class.

I took his class over the summer, I will come at his class from a different perspective. Professor D isn't the best lecturer, often time his lectures go off track, and one can't tell if what he's talking about is pertinent to assignments. He's awesome in office hours. Read the Wall Street Journal. Ask questions while doing the papers. He's tough.

The lectures and classes are engaging and fun to go to. My only complaint is that everything comes down to one final paper which is pass fail. This final has no rubric and very few details. In addition because of lack of consistency within the final it can be very confusing. Be prepared to tear your hair out on the final but otherwise enjoy.

Dunn teaches you how to critically think. It is not enough to know the headlines; why did this event happen? I was on edge and nervous his entire class but that is what he wants. Dunn teaches you to be ready for anything and defend your logic. You don't have to be right, but make an effort and you will pass.

He wants to focus on current events with the goal to improve your critical thinking skills. Instead of the textbook he'd rather you read the Wall Street Journal or New York Times and be ready to speak in class. He has a few essays and is looking to see if you get the main points. Participation is key.

Class is way more stressful than it needs to be. He has the most unclear grading criteria I've ever experienced in a college class, and assigns lengthy papers that he doesn't even take the time to grade. Wrote a 20 page case study to end the term and received a C in the class with no feedback whatsoever. I will never take a class with him again.

Comment:
Dunn is intimidating at first, but he genuinely cares about the material he is teaching. I learned more practical, applicable, real-life business knowledge in his class than in any other class I have taken in the CBA. Take a special interest in reading on the topics he focuses on and you will learn far more than the intended course curriculum.
