Dr. Brown is both a legend and an icon. He is by far my favorite prof in the english department - I've taken 4 of his classes by now. Every class you are guaranteed to hear a personal life story of his, and you'll likely listen to a song or watch a clip from the simpsons too. He is a tough marker, but he's fair. Write a good essay, you'll get an A.

Comment:
Very tough grader/minimal feedback. His reading lists are always amazing and he offers some of the most interesting English courses at MTA. Can be quite cold, critical of feminist theory and of creative/subjective arguments. If you write in a purely analytic style, you'll be fine. Definitely pigeonholes his students at a +/-5 grade for the year.

My favourite professor I've ever had. Super tough grader but will definitely give you A's if you deserve them. Entertaining and interesting lectures. I think Dr. Brown is hilarious, but he does have a very dry sense of humour. Goes a little easier on upper years than he does on first and second years. Gives a ton of feedback on essays.

He is very knowledgable about the books he chooses but required 8 novels and usually spent 1 - 2 classes per novel. His assignments were usually only 500 - 800 words but he was an extremely hard grader. Group discussions are the highlight of the class but his lecture materials can be quite dry...

Dr. Brown is a punk-rock, music loving genius. It's clear to see that he loves his work, and even though the reading list isn't always chosen to popular taste, his unique perspective makes the material quite interesting. It's important to do the reading, as the essay questions require you to really know the material. Overall, a great, funny guy.

He really expects you to work for your grades, and attend class. He is hilarious though, though sometimes his humor might come off as arrogant though. Overall a good prof but slackers wont do well in his courses.

Comment:
Peter may come off as arrogant or condescending, but that's mostly his very dry sense of humour. He's a great teacher overall, willing to help where help is due and able to communicate complex ideas in an accessible way. In return, he does expect you to really understand the material he teaches, which can be fairly dense, but by no means impossible

He's a really weird guy but I like him. He often goes off on tangents which can be quite comical. He marks kind of tough but give lot's (I mean lot's) of feedback. There is a lot of reading but it's manageable. I wouldn't mind having him as a prof again.

Dr. Brown is an intelligent man, though as a first-year student, I found him a little intimidating. He encouraged students to speak up and ask questions in class, and his dry sense of humour really helps to break the awkward silence in the room. Lectures were good overall but could have been more detailed. Keeping up with class readings is a MUST.

Nice man, though a little intimidating. Very hard marker, to the point of frustration. Class room atmosphere was uncomfortable because students were intimidated by him. He is intelligent and knows his stuff but he doesn't get the point across well to students. Should only be an upper level course teacher, not intro classes. Pretty funny guy though.

Dr. Brown takes his job very seriously even though he is not a serious person. Very dry sense of humour. He is a secret nerd and is very knowledgeable on popular culture. Intelligent professor that teaches clearly and effectively. Easy to approach. I've taken both a 1st year course with him and the transition between each was easy. Great prof.

Comment:
His main interest lies in Music and art, so if you are a music major or an artist you will do fine. All his readings involve some form of music such as jazz or art (cubism). He is very condescending. Very unhelpful and condescending during office hours. He put me down a lot instead of helping me. Marks hard. I don't like him. Has attitude problem

Probably the best teacher I've ever had. He's a hard marker, but fair, and extremely intelligent. Encourages questions, is helpful when you do ask. A bit intimidating but I think that's just because he's smart so I want him to respect me.

Classroom was an uncomfortable atmosphere, prof frequently told students they were "wrong" after he asked a question and was given an answer (it's an ENGLISH course- how can you be WRONG??). not very friendly at all. Critical of feminist theory. Non-approachable. Heavy workload.

He's a bit of a hard marker, and is very into American literature, which is not something I'm interested in. Having said that, he presented the material in a way that I could at least appreciate, if not enjoy. And he's just a nice and funny guy. Good prof, cool guy.

Dr Brown is my favourite prof at MtA. He clearly loves what he studies, and makes class very funny and interesting to attend. He always gives lots of feedback on papers (even if it's not what you want to hear, it's always helpful). Very cynical and hilarious.
