Despite the fact that my interest level in Middle English literature is basically zero, this class was nevertheless my favourite of the semester. Dr. Waugh is funny, open to discussion and students' ideas, and makes his marking guidelines clear. He sparked my interest in a course I initially didn't want to take.

Very helpful and approachable. Follows syllabus closely and his expectations are clear. He is not easy but he shouldn't be expected to be. He has a great sense of humour and keeps class from getting boring. Easily one of WLU's best professors in the English department.

Great teacher who makes most classes interesting. He expects you to know the course material and attend every lecture. However, we spent the entire semester learning the grammer of old english and for the final and 2nd midterm he made us do translations without actually teaching us the language. When I approached him about this he said too bad.

Attempts to be funny, but is condescending, unapproachable, and downright rude for all of his courses (I took 4 as they were mandatory)

A wonderful professor. He is very approachable. He knows when certain required readings are boring and he keeps them interesting by making hilarious jokes. You have to work hard to get a good mark but if you do what's required and keep up with readings and work, he gives out very fair marks. I would take another class with him in a heartbeat.

A great prof. The textbook he selected was not expensive, he made lecture interesting and really engaged the class and cared about what we thought. The only downside is that he marks essays quite harshly. His final exam was easy and fair if you put in the time to study.

Not a huge fan of him. I found him condescending and not the best lecturer. Not sure if he is better in a smaller class, but was not impressed with him for this class. Also found him a little inappropriate in some of the comments he made. Have not taken another class with him and hope not to.

Comment:
Lectures were completely pointless - he never spoke about the literature we read, he was only interested in giving historical background (like which king/queen reigned at the time of a certain author). Hard marker (although his quizzes were a breeze). True lectures were given by the tutorial leaders. Horrible required course. You'll learn nothing.

Dr. Waugh is a decent Professor and a nice guy. He does have high expectations and you will have to do all the work required. Don't take him if you're looking for little work or easy marks.

his lectures are becomming more and more interesting. But i think that it's fine he takes attendance and the quizzes are fine.. but he needs to put things online..he talks so fast and has so many lecture slides i can only copy down whats on them and not what he's saying. He either needs to do that or give us less notes to copy down.

Pretty much the rudest and meanest prof I've encountered at university yet. Beware of asking for any test date to be changed even if an emergency has come up - he won't give you anything but a 0. Lame lectures. Tries to be funny but falls short every time.

Regrettably, Dr. Waugh teaches all the required courses for an Honours English degree. He makes the classes as interesting as possible, but his expectations are high. These are not classes that even the best students can slack in, he notices poor or last minute work and will dock you for it dreadfully. Mildly approachable - ended up crying.
