your grade is based on 18 quizzes that are 3 question multiple choice. I definitely could have done better if I studied more but overall not too difficult of a class. The textbook is not worth buying and the homework is confusing and not worth doing. Study your notes and memorize concepts and you'll be fine

Not a fan. responding to questions, he tended to talk down at students and made me feel pretty lesser than. I feel like his grading is extreme and he often marked things off without offering feedback. His tests were OK, not great not bad, and the final was brutal. The homework took many hours to complete. I would NOT reccomend him for this course.

Don't take him unless it's a must. He's rude and really doesn't care about his students, at all. There have even been times I've attended office hours and left feeling more stressed then before. On the bright side, he does answer all questions you may have. You MUST study for tests. I didn't for the first one and did awful but did well on the other

This is by far the strangest class I've taken at JMU. Your final grade is based solely off of 18 mini quizzes, with 3 multiple choice questions each. He allows 18 retakes for the semester, and there is no final exam. The textbook was unhelpful, so the recommended homework is not worth doing. Overall is an easy option for 231.

Above average teacher. Cares about his students, but shows no passion or enthusiasm about the class. Does a pretty good job of explaining concepts but lectures can be very boring. Tests are pretty hard but he lets you bring a notecard into each test.

Kohn is a very nice and kind professor. However, he explains things in a convoluted way and just moves on when the class is clearly completely lost. I got an A, because I retook the quizzes during office hours, and because I was going off of my high school knowledge of PreCalc. I didn't learn much, and I largely guessed on the quizzes.

Kohn is a decent professor, very lecture heavy. The lectures can be dull sometimes, and attendance is not mandatory. He grades out of 18 short quizzes, no final or homework grades. He doesn't teach much honestly, and leaves it up to you to put in the extra work. All in all, Kohn's class is decent, and if you took calc in hs, you should do fine.

A goofy, oddball professor who unfortunately cannot teach you in any capacity. You will often find yourself listening in lecture seeming to understand the topic, until you go home and look at the textbook chapter and realize it's much more complicated. Be ready to teach yourself and study for the tons of 3 question quizzes which define your grade

Kohn shows little passion for Calc 3. His lectures are confusing, and his tests are ridiculous. Definitely choose a different professor. It is obvious that Calculus is difficult, but half of the class dropped! That should be an indication of how he conducts a class. If you're stuck with him and you don't have a "C" by the drop deadline, then drop.

Condescending. Rude. Not passionate. These are the words that come to my mind when I think of Kohn. I'm not surprised that JMU hired this professor since better universities know better than to hire someone not interested in the subject field. Grades way too hard. I've done well in math classes but his have halted my success.

I would not recommend taking Dr. Kohn because he isn't passionate about what he teaches. If you ask him why he does something a certain way he will just say because thats how you're supposed to. His tests are way to hard for the material, he barely gives any partial credit, and he doesn't answer questions.

I went to his office hours 5-6 times throughout the semester and was not helped a single time. He does an awful job explaining tough concepts, and he has little patience with those struggling in his class. If math is not your strongest subject, I do not recommend taking him for anything.

IF YOU DIDN'T TAKE CALC IN HIGH SCHOOL DO NOT TAKE HIM. He uses a textbook he wrote that is very confusing. Different terminology than you've ever used. Tests aren't too hard but the class is. Homework every night that you have to do that is hard and time consuming. Don't avoid him but I wouldn't recommend him either. He's sweet and funny.

Hands down one of the best math professors I've ever had. I took this level course in high school, but his lectures on the material were so much clear than what I already knew. His passion for mathematics was honestly so inspiring to me, he truly thinks of calculus as an art form.

He is very nice and funny. He cares about his students and will help you with anything. I wouldn't recommend him if you haven't already taken calc. He talks for a long time and really likes proofs, but the homework is easy and he doesn't give very much. He assigns about 15 problems and only 6 are required, then one is chosen by dice to grade.

Professor Kohn was an ok teacher. I had taken calc in high school so I knew the material, yet most of the students had a tough time understanding him. Tests aren't hard as long as you study and there is homework every night. Very goofy and interesting guy, if I had to take math again I would try to find another professor.

He is a good teacher, but I have to retake the class. If you have questions, go to his office hours!!! You gotta practice this stuff, unless it comes easy to you. He's a nice guy and he made some awkward funny jokes in class. His tests are his study guides, but still do the HW!! He collects 10 random problems from the HW.

Peter Kohn's lectures are all over the place and they can be very confusing, but if you have any questions he will help you a ton in office hours. You have to work hard in this class for a good grade, even with the curve. I wouldn't take this class if you don't have any calculus background.

Professor Kohn is awesome. His lectures are easy to follow and assignments, while frequent are fair and prepare you well for tests. Study guides are very clear and accurately reflect exam content. You'll absolutely work for your grade, but in a fulfilling way.

BEST teacher. He's so funny. He is very clear as to what he's teaching. He gives assignments almost every other day but they're only 6 questions and he grades only 1 by rolling dye. Test are easy. I would take him again if he had another class. Met some really cool people in that class. If you don't understand his humor, get out, you wont have fun.
