Comment:
Beery spends the entire hour rambling about nonsense. He grades extremely tough and spends the class period roasting student assignments on the projector. I am writing this review in class because I'm so bored. If I didn't have a computer in front of me in this class my heart would have failed from boredom.

Awful professor I have learned nothing from this man. He doesn't actually teach the information and then when you turn in a writing assignment he will put it up in the front of the class and make you feel awful about yourself and make you question your writing skills after picking out everything you did wrong in front of everyone. Out of date prof.

This was my least favorite prof and class I have had at GV so far. I would consider myself to be a strong writer, but Beery's grading criteria made it nearly impossible to get an A. There was not clear expectations set for students in terms of writing and very little feedback was provided which made it difficult to improve your grade. Don't do it.

Probably one of the worst professors I have had in my entire schooling career. Extremely tough grader with absolutely zero feedback on anything. Thankfully for anyone reading this he is retiring after next semester so you will not have to deal with the absolute horrid "teaching" this man provides. 1 out of 10.

Beery is well versed in journalism, for sure. However, his teaching style is a little past its prime. He tends to ramble and gets off topic. His grading is tough and he will often get assignments back to you after you've already turned in another paper just like it. Pretty rough class.

Professor Beery knows journalism, but I don't think he is up on modern journalism. This is basically an AP Style class, so get your books ready. He gives out a lot of extra credit. His lectures are kind of all over the place. He is a great guy, but the class lacks in the creative department. The actual graphics part is non-existent

This prof was literally the worst professor I have ever had. Ever. He rambles about uesless things and teaches journalism like it is still the 1950s. He doesn't give any feedback and is not willing to help students at all. This professor seems to set his students up to fail.

Confusing in his lectures, because he rambles a little. But, he is passionate about the field. He gives you the best feedback that he can. And if you do the extra credit. it will be hard to fail this class. Great guy none the less and literally gives you the pages of the book printed up.

He's the worst professor I've ever had. He is so outdated with journalism it's scary. He explains nothing - because he literally has no idea. He taught us an entire lesson on headline code wrong, then retracted his words via email telling us to look in the book. Wasted $1,600 on a class when I could've just bought a $100 book and learned more.

The amount of work he gave in class made me hate journalism. He gives you a lot for work for this class. You won't really learn anything new from his lectures and they are boring at times. My best suggestion is don't take any other writing classes at the same time. That's what made this class so stressful for me.

Prof Beery is an interesting character. He really knows his journalism from years of experience in the field, so I would definitely listen to him. Dry lectures but exams are easy if you review the book chapters. Willing to meet with you to help you improve your news writing.

If you want to be a journalist, get the degree at a different university because Beery will make you hate journalism. His lectures are awful. He loves busy work. All exams, exercises, quizzes come from the book. He comes up with next to nothing of his own material. Awful professor.

He is a nice enough guy and even a bit funny sometimes, but he is a bit dry in lectures. I also had next to no interest in the subject, so I am not going to blame him for the fact that I didn't like the class.

I loathed coming to this class. Thank god we had a computer screen in front of us the whole time or I would have been asleep. All he does is assignment articles to write, never gives you any direction or guidelines, and top grade you will ever receive is a B or C. He will openly admit to that as well.

Difficult to work with. Started off the class with a test that he said he knew we'd fail, just so that we'd "have to work to get out of the hole". Grades hard but doesn't explain anything. Also, he seems to favor girls...

Beery is a very knowledgeable guy. he tries to act like he's inflexible with grades but he gives you plenty of make up chances. the book is important but for help in the course. after the first few assignments, you get the hang of what he wants. you can revise your first couple assignments too. no midterm or final!

They should have canned him before he got tenure. I CAN'T STAND HIM! He will try to prove you wrong regardless of what you say - even if it means going back on what he said earlier. Do not take him. I hope he reads this and considers a different career!

Great person, pretty good professor. Has a lot of hands on journalism experience and knows how to use it. The only downside is that he tends to ramble and go on pointless tangents. And he stutters a lot.

Good guy. Very knowledgable in the field. Lectures can be boring but he really acknowledges and appreciates those who are attentive. He's flexbile and understanding about deadlines. If he's your advisor he's very knowledgable about the courses/requirements, too. Lets you know what to study for tests; gives lots of opportunity for extra credit.
