I liked PHIL157! The cours lacked structure, however prof davies was very accommodating! Her weekly office hours were helpful on gaining more insight on content and the TAs in essay writing workshops were amazing. definitely reccomend.

I took this course because of how interesting the description was. Unfortunately, it did not turn out to be like anything like I thought it would be. Overall, this class is extremely disorganized and slow. I definitely think this course has potential to be great but Dr. Davies did not deliver in this regard.

Would give the prof a 0/5 if I could. Worst prof I've ever had. The course is insanely disorganized, no one knows what is going on, and the prof ignores students' questions asking for clarification about the content. Maybe she is an okay prof as a live prof, but I highly discourage anyone from taking any of her online classes.

9% of this class was marked on tutorial attendance. an additional 28% is based on completion (all or nothing discussion marks). A very reasonable person

Professor Davies is possibly the best professor I have had this year. She is extraordinarily caring towards students and enthusiastic about content. This enthusiasm not only deepens understanding of content, but our own appreciation for it. Sometimes readings can be long and intimidating, but she always explains them clearly and thoroughly in class

Davies was a great prof for first-year philosophy. She cared about her students and wanted them to do well, so the assignments were not difficult and she gave you lots of hints to help you. Her lectures could be a bit dry, but overall they were helpful in understanding the readings.

Dr. Davies goes off on tangents sometimes however they are mostly very interesting. Her slides and the way she explains things are clear and in-depth and she really engages the class and encourages questions and discussion. She is also very caring and tries to learn as many names as possible.

Dr. Davies was incredible. I fainted in her class once and she came to see me in the hospital to make sure I was ok. Her class is also very easy to understand and she engaged the class in discussion effectively

One of the most caring profs I had first year. I got a concussion towards to end of first semester and she genuinely cared about my well being more than the assignments and checked in on me multiple times. She got to know many people's names in the class. Tests were hard but it was extremely easy to do well on the essay and exam.

Prof Davies was an extremely caring and kind individual. I had no background in philosophy so I had some difficulties. Those who did found this class easier as it meant they could rely on their previous knowledge, whereas I had to focus on the readings more. Some readings were difficult to understand. Weighted grading was extremely helpful.

Very unclear, especially in the lecture notes. Didn't make the course very interesting philosophically either... More factual than anything. Also should've been more explanatory with respect to philosophical concepts rather than just the facts, which were needed for getting graded well.

She took a little getting used to as her lectures are pretty unstructured, and you can sometimes go the whole class without getting the point. If you haven't got a background in Philosophy, it can be difficult to get the hang of it. However, she always engaged us in discussions which made going to the lectures worthwhile. Plus, the grading was easy

Easiest course I've ever taken. The quizzes are all based on the readings, and there are only a handful throughout the year. In class we just discuss stuff completely unrelated to any of the readings. I showed up maybe once a week and ended up with a B+. All the essays are completely optional too.

Taken two classes with her. She does weighted grading - the things you do well in are weighted more heavily on your final mark. Truly cares about students, and will always make time for them.

I've had Davies for several classes because I keep going back. She is smart, engaging and extremely helpful should you ask for assistance. She is a fair marker and using sliding weight scales to accomodate those who are better at tests/essays.

Amazing professor. Incredible experience. She managed a class which was 4 times too large with a host of non-philosophy students and managed to maintain an engaging discussion for all participants. You cannot possibly go through the class and not learn something.
