Before taking Liu's class I read the reviews and understood that Id have to be responsible for myself, but I didn't know that was impossible. DO NOT BE LIKE ME. hes nice but too smart to teach. Tutors dont even understand why he marks off points on tests. Your grade is determined by 4 tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. SWITCH UR SCHEDULE IF NEEDED.

This was an okay class. The only grades are three tests and the final, but if you pay attention in class and do the (optional) homework and practice, you should be fine. Usually a week leading up to a test will be independent/group review in class so that opens the opportunity to ask him any questions. His accent is hard to understand at times

Liu bases his class off the textbook. Lectures are kind of confusing, but take good notes and study using problems from the textbook. 3 tests: open note and curved up 10 pts. He isn't very clear, and proofs will kill. I've lost a lot of test points from proofs. HOWEVER, he assigns no homework which is the BEST. Take him only if you must...

As long as you go to every class and take good notes you will pass. The tests are the only grades in the class but they are all open notes, so as long as you do a couple practice problems the tests are not too bad. A bit of a language barrier but he writes everything he says on the board so it's not too bad. Overall good class.

There are 4 tests total, all of which are open notes. It is a tough class in general. Professor is helpful but has long lectures. However, he provides great examples in class that are usually the same as the tests. He says he does not give out many A's which is a combination of his grading (which is fair) and the rigor of the course.

Liu is bybfar the easiest prof for math 103 . His class saved my GPA ! Take himmm and you wont regret . Easy A , I dont understand why people complained about him. Tests are fairly easy and he doesnt really expect much from you . The materials covered are not that difficult , they are all basic concepts learnt from high school . Seriously , easy A

Math ISNT designed for slacker , if you study, easy B. He's the easiest math professor at JMU.I hardly understand why anyone received bad grade . He ALWAYS reviewed before each test and tests ARE BASED on what he reviewed (only changed the number) . Spending 30mins and glancing at the reviewed material before test day ,I got an A and barely studied

Awful! Just awful! He gives out take home tests and hosts help-stations which are nice but no help or clarification. All he does is nods his head and expects way too much. Plus, all he does is write on the board exactly what the book says that he wrote himself and doesn't explain much. Do not take his class unless you really love teaching yourself!

The language barrier was just too much. Incredibly monotonous lectures sprinkled with low key humor. His tests are not easy and consist of 10 or fewer questions which makes failing very easy.

Liu is a TOUGH grader. You can use your notes (but not the textbook) for the exam. Attendance is mandatory, no homework, ALL notes are from the textbook.

There is a language barrier. He's a nice guy and the material should be easy but it's difficult to hear and understand him. His tests are open note but I would still say take someone else unless you like teaching yourself.

I'm not really sure why everyone is bashing on him. All tests are open notes with partial credit for even wrong answers. I never once studied, all i did was go to class every day and I got a B+. All these people who got bad grades just didn't go to class. Literally all you have to do is go to class and you have a B.

Lui is the best teacher I have had thus far at JMU. He works directly from the book that he wrote himself and will do hundreds of practice problems. You are aloud to use ALL of your notes on the tests and the tests are very fair. TAKE THIS CLASS!!! As long as you study two nights before the test and understand your notes you will get an A+.

I went in this class saying, it's the easiest math class, not superb at math but when I'm taught it well i can get a B. He is hard to understand. He does NOT teach. tried to teach myself, he writes EXACTLY whats in the book. Killing my gpa.Ask for further explanation, get a head nod/told whats on the board.afraid I'll fail due to a poor professor.

If you value your time and tuition money, take another class. Liu destroys GPAs out of sheer laziness and lack of effort to help his students.

Yikes. He's certainly rough. He does not speak coherent English so I can't really judge his level of intelligence. He makes a simple class, difficult. However, if you are willing to go to his office hours and work with him he will reward you.

I haven't thought about Liu in years. I graduated a few years ago and now I'm applying to MBA programs and am having to explain why my otherwise good record shows an F for Calculus. I remember getting the cold shoulder when I attempted to meet during office hours. The pamphlet of a textbook ,bound by construction paper, no HW, was a disaster.
