Comment:
Midterms were open book. For assignments, this prof explains the theoretical concepts in class and expects you to figure out how to implement it through reading documentation, textbook resources, etc. This style of teaching is deliberate and there is definitely value in it. She has stated before that her goal is to prepare you for the working world

Extremely rude to all her students, she answered questions for the first 3 weeks then ghosted the whole class for the rest of the semester. Whenever she answers she either says "Read the assignment again" or mocks your question. Her quizzes were decently easy but some of the assignments were very poorly worded which resulted in a lot of struggling.

I've had Deb twice now. Both times: Lectures were very bland, assignments were unclear to the point that the teaching team had issues interpreting them. When reaching out for answers, multiple students were ridiculed by the professor. A pleasant surprise was finding the midterms setup for your success, as opposed to 1300.

Deb is literally the best - just her lectures are enough to understand things but if you're having trouble, she'll help you out and even gives resources/links to back up course material

Deb is a great prof. Her lectures are extremely engaging and she knows what she's teaching. Although she does put tons of cats on her lecture slides, which I think is an absolute win. Her assignments aren't hard but they can be a bit long. Her midterm was extremely easy. The final was also easy but way too long fir the given amount of time.

Awesome professor. If you go to lectures and try to understand her and ask her questions at the end of lecture surely you will get to learn a lot.

Not a great prof. Attempts to related to the class were forced at best. She was not aware of the content that was taught in the prerequisite course. Assignments were incredibly easy, and the final was created and graded in a way specifically to lower the class average by testing for content that was not core to the course.

Not a bad prof if you enjoy bad lectures read from slides. Her testing method is outdated. She makes you write code out by hand for tests and exams. Final exam was created specifically to lower the class average which was high due to easy assignments.

She provides good lecture notes and is understandable. Lots of marks elsewhere in the course for labs/assignments. Willing to explain if you ask. Sometimes comes off as a "know-it-all" and arrogant, but it's just her personality. Still a good prof and I would take another course with her. Gives exam hints - go to class!

I don't even take notes in her class, I go because she explains things in a very relatable, real life way that you won't get from the slides alone. Assignments are challenging but straight forward and do-able and same with the midterms.

Definitely knows her stuff, and encourages you to learn the material (for example, instead of teaching you Perl, she'll make you learn it yourself). Final assignment was a bit vague for the majority of the semester. Midterm and exam were fair.

D. Stacey can be VERY unclear of what she wants from you at times. The 'Virtual City' project took us about a month to finally figure what she wanted exactly for the porject. Her class is pretty easy though if you know what she wants. Very understanding at times. Overall pretty good prof!

After spending 8 years in the software industry I can say that Deb Stacey is the most realistic of the CS profs and really gets you ready for a career in software development.

A little arrogant, but not in a bad way. Good teacher, knows her stuff, very fair. (Looks like most of the people here have taken 245 with her which is the filter class at Guelph. REAL HARD, and you won't continue in computers if you don't pass.)

Dull, arrogant, and reads straight from old overheads. Class averages are a bit lower, but will give marks if you push for it, though.
