It is good to know he is not teaching any longer about Latin America. He did not know the difference between El Salvador and Honduras; he thought that Paraguay was in Uruguay and that Brazilians spoke English and Spanish.

I really enjoyed Professor Gerber's class, I had him for Econ 464 and Econ 496. Both classes required a ton of reading and reading the books thoroughly are essential to passing. I skipped something of the reading and it effected my grade. The midterms and final were essay questions - typically 4-6 questions.

Gerber is an amazing instructor. talks about current and past events. I learned a lot about Latin America in his class. He is a really nice guy and likes to help, Office hours are recommended. a lot of short essays due and one map quiz at the beginning. tests are essay and key terms. READ THE BOOKS or you wont do well

He knows a lot about economics and I liked his lecture. He was helpful during his office hour. But his exams were a bit harder and he didn't give us clear study guide. So I enjoyed his lectures but had hard time studying for the exams

He is an awesome guy. Knows everything about Latin America and really wants everyone to know and remember the important parts of the history of the different countries. Really is the best class to take.

Do not take him for this class. Horrible time management. He will spend 3 weeks on one chapter, realize he is behind and spend a day on the other chapters but expect you to know everything he doesn't cover. Do not take unless you want to spend excessive amounts of time on his class because you have to learn it on your own.

Like everyone else says, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Class has nothing to do with economics at all. Hard to stay focused, no power points or teaching aids, midterm and finals have insane amounts of information needed to know. Unless this is your only class this semester, you won't have time to get a good grade. (Which explains his large curve.)

He is a good person but that doesn't make him a good teacher. All I can say is that he doesn't motivate me to continue studying economics his lectures are boring, they could be more interactive and fun. Most of his books are uninteresting, and long. All I can say whatever grades are gotten are a reflection of his teaching system. We're human beings

He knows economics. He just seems to not know how to teach it. He lets the 6 books he assigns teach the class. During class he vaguely mentions the books. He talks mostly about broad subjects. No actually tests, just 5 papers that are 4-5 pages in length. Not an easy A, but he curves a lot.

You can listen or read the news on your own. You don't need to to know or become connected with someone who intrudes into private lives and then passes on the information to other faculty and students. He can't help it. It's just an impulse!!!

I took Gerber for Latin American Economics, it was a great class. Instead of lecturing about the boring stuff in the book he would actually talk about news and topics relevant to the real world. Test questions on BB are on the actual test (essay question style tests. = Easy) PS. HUGE CURVE 85% =A

If you want to see a good performance, go to his class. He is always there for the students; he cares a lot for them; he's truly concerned about they learn or do not learn. He's approachable, friendly, articulate, and he's real!!

Dr. Gerber thinks he can "direct" gullible students and influence them to file complaints against other faculty members. The worst part is that he thinks that students will never figure it out. His behavior is clearly unethical. Who can tell him what's right from wrong?

I don't find any inspiration in someone who spends his time badmouthing students and faculty. Who told Mr. Gerber that gossip is part of his duties?

Hard class, you'll learn a lot and you'll also have to read a lot! If I remember correctly, 5 books. If you're not willing to do the work, don't bother taking this class.
