Comment:
Really wish I hadn't taken psychology with him. He speaks in a monotone about useless things that aren't even on the test. Most people went to class solely for the surprise quizzes at the end. Take with a teacher who is actually interesting! Smith knows his stuff but he knows way too much and tends to talk about irrelevant material during lecture.

Useless professor. Made outlines in the slideshows that described the material we had to cover, and consistently deviated. Went on irrelevant tangents, and talked to hear his own voice. Learned more from the TA than from the professor. In studying, had to completely rely on ebook he wrote (which was incompatible with most peoples' software).

He was a good teacher who really knew what he was talking about. The tests were easy for people with common sense who took a little time to study. He really understands psych and clearly outlines what is important for the course. The TAs were awful, but I liked Smith. Also the tests are 81% of your grade, I thought it'd be scary but it went well

If you don't mind his monotone voice and extremely boring voice, then I would think carefully about taking this class. Find another professor. I attended ALMOST every lecture because of the pop quizzes, but didn't even need to go. Just read the chapters (if you can stand that) and you will be fine.

Horrible Teacher. All he does his mumble and go off topic the entire class. tests are impossible. You have to read his stupid book that he wrote him self ($120) and it's an e-book. Tests cover about 6 chapters worth of material so it's hard to know everything. TA's are useless. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR PLEASE! SAVE yourself from the boredom.

Prof Smith doesn?t give horribly interesting lectures but does summarize well. The course was graded on a curve which helped offset all material that had to be studied. Don?t take if you have problems staying awake or can?t keep up on reading.

so awful. so so so awful. hopefully you'll get a good ta, because literally all he does is stand up there and talk straight from the textbook (which is even more boring than he is.) the class would be bearable if you could skip most of the lectures, but of course he has pop quizzes to keep you there, suffering. avoid at all costs.

The worst professor I have ever had. I went to every lecture and discussion and was never late to any class, and I studied for hours but only managed to pass with a C. To pass the class, you basically had to read his whole useless textbook. Lectures were pointless and didn't help on the test at all. Drop this class asap!!

Very careless professor that allows careless head T.A. to handle grades. His lecture is so boring and has nothing to do with exam unless you study the whole chapter by urself. Don't go to TA, study on your own. I attended all lecture, studied the study guides and the txtbook, I passed with an average. I regretted I didn't drop the class.Do not take

useless professor, useless TA's. if it weren't for the quizzes, i doubt anyone would attend his lectures. you HAVE to read the textbook (pretty much every page) and take ur own notes if you want to do good in this class. however, this means about 150 pages per week of reading and note taking. only plus is that a 78+ is an A on his exams usually

The worst teacher I have possibly had in my life. I came to all the lectures and only managed a C. Lectures are useless as he takes them straight from the book. He didn't get to all the chapters so you are basically own your.TA's determines your grade which mine was never at lectures and didn't know what was going on.Don't take this class.

the lectures for his class are completely useless, i went to a few in the beginning of the semester and he just skims over material and wont go into detail because it's in "your text" which is TRUE! PAY ATTENTION to all the "key terms" pages in the text book and you will do fine!

Not a very good Professor, which caused my withdawal from the class. He is so careless about teaching. You will have to read 4-5 chapters (300 pages plus) for a 50-quetion test. So, if you don't read it carefully, you will do poorly. T.A. gave a study guide that is not related to the test. May be 1..grr. If you have Norwood as Head TA-arrogant.

He is the worst teacher! he will comment on a few chapters and at the last minute leave it up to the students to finish up to three chapters on their own before a major exam. Basically, his TAs almost determine your grade. If you have Beth, you will be lost the whole semester since she doesn't give out any paper work. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

If you want to take one of the best/most challenging CCJS courses, take this. Barry Smith is an astounding professor. He doesn't only teach you material, he teaches you life. He tells you how to prepare for your futures. This class is my favorite class. Do the reading/work, you get the grade you deserve. This class should be mandatory, fact.

Comment:
lectures are ridiculously boring. It kind of made me angry sitting in that class. Gives super easy pop quizzes w/ answers written on the board (just for attendance). TONS of reading though. Since lecture material is useless- read the book and bring something to do in lecture and you'll be fine.
