It was an okay class. You could only miss so many classes, but it is okay because the discussions are interesting. You learn a lot from the readings, but sometimes he can speak in a tone that is hard for you yo hear him.

AVOID at all costs! Noting he talks about has anything to do with SOC. If you do take him read the novel he requires and go to every class. Very boring and hard to pay attention to. The class is so hard the grading scale starts at 84% is an A. And no that does not mean you will get an A because the class average is a 57%. GOOD LUCK!

Larry Tifft is a brilliant man. He is open minded to factual debate, kind, and knows his sociology. I never missed a class. If you can move your thinking beyond the Rupert Murdock selections, you will learn a lot in his classes. You cannot make informed decisions without accurate information. His resources are well documented and accurate.

Terrible teacher. He talks in circles and is VERY unclear about assignments and what he is teaching. His class is unbearable. 99% of class is on their laptops on facebook all 3 hours. AVOIDDDD

Horrible professor. Three hour night class is unbearable. Talks and talks about the same thing for hours when it could have been discussed in probably 30 min. Hard to work with outside of class. And very unclear on how he wants his papers done. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!

Larry Tifft claims to not force his opinions and beliefs upon his students. I find this deceitful. He doesn't comprehend that the majority of his students don't understand the references he is making to many subjects in his lectures. He basically likes to hear himself talk. I can easily say that Larry Tifft wasted 3 hours of my life every Wednesday

Prof Tifft is an interesting character. He presents many complex ideas, but he's not angered if you ask for clarity. I enjoyed this class. I didn't like it being a 3 hour nite class, because he can get pretty boring listening to for that period of time. I didn't read either books in this class completely, but my friend failed it and did read

Do not take this class if you can avoid it, especially as a 3 hour night class! Worst class I've ever had. Big L is very smart, but spends 3 hours on tangents when we could have just done our discussions and been out in 45 minutes. Doesn't tell you what he expects in papers until he hands them back. 3 5pg papers, 1 8-10 page final. DON'T DO IT!

Worse professor i've had so far at CMU. If you have your own input on anything, don't write about it cause he will just fail you. If you read the book he assigns idk what you will get on the test. I read the majority of it and got a C on the test, most people didn't read a sentence and did better then me. AVOID HIM AT ALLL COSTS!!!!!!

Worst class in the world. Especially for three hours straight. You never have a clue what you are supposed to be doing. Half the semester was spent watching movies and the other half was spent reading a book. Half my class decided to quit showing up half way through the year because it doesn't help at all. I would avoid him at all costs.

Larry Tift is a very intelligent man. I really enjoy his class because he challenges his students to think about the society in which we live. The class is pretty simple, you just have to want to learn in order to truly enjoy it.

DO NOT TAKE HIS THREE HOUR CLASS! It seriously is the worst thing in the world. The papers you have to write are based on whether your opinions match his. And his remarks are so terrible you can't read them at all so you dont know what you did wrong. I didn't even read the Women on the Edge of Time book and got a 91/100 on the exam. Wasteof my time

It has been 10 years since I had Larry for three classes for my undergrad. I can't say I learned much classic social theory, but did learn to question what is shown in the media and gained social analysis skills that I use every day in business. Larry's teaching expanded my thought process and I recommend him for high level classes not intro to soc

Tifft is one of the best professors I have ever had. He challenges you to examine your beliefs. He is not an easy teacher, but if you REALLY LISTEN to him, engage in REAL THINKING, you will gain a life time of cool new brain cells.
