Saul is a great guy, and is always (emphasis on always) willing to help. This is a REALLY hard (emphasis on really) hard class though. I liked it, and I learned alot, but it was a struggle. TESTS ARE HARD

I took Hnrs Intro to Microeconomics in the fall of 1984 (LONG time ago, was EC151). Never had an Econ class before. Dr Hoffman's class was great. I developed a life-long love of the subject. The class wasn't easy, but he was an approachable professor, and I learned a lot. Great how he incorporate his research into an intro class

Professor Hoffman is a really good guy and he's an expert at what he's teaching and that's always a plus. There is no hw and reading isn't necessary. I recommend not buying the book. Speaking of, go to class. You lose 1% off your grade for each absence and you could easily end up lost if you don't go to lecture.

Comment:
Awkward, unpredictable, would give strange responses to simple questions, very easy to get distracted in class, lots and lots of math work which got annoying. Would require absolute perfection on tests too, so even if i was close to what he wanted I'd get very little partial credit which killed my test grades. He is nice and wants to help you.

Wonderful professor. He truly cares about his students and their success. He writes all the important notes as he talk. Tests are challenging but as long as you prepare, they are not hard.

Comment:
His class entails the memorizing of formulas and specific numbers, which he says you "dont need to know" before the first exam. Handwriting is illegible, his notes are useless. It seems like he doesnt understand that the students have 4 other classes that are more important. Take another econ elective because it is very difficult to even get a B.

He's really enthusiastic about the material...that's for sure. The tests were longer than they really needed to be. The class attendance policy sucks too. He sounds like James Woods, which is a plus, but that 1 hr 15 min felt like forever. Overall, a decent 300 level, but if I could do it over again I'd take something else.

Great class bc it's so relevant to today's policy issues. It was really interesting to see how marriage affects men and women's earnings. Tests aren't easy and require you to write concisely since they're long. You really need to know the statistics and mathematical concepts he covers.
