Mr "H" was a walking encyclopedia! He was always up-to date, but if he did not know the answer, he quickly indicated " Sorry, but I am ignorant on that." If we were same age-he would be my buddy. Never could figure out his politics. He praised and condemned both parties.

Professor Holder was the best teacher at the college. So sorry that he has retired, but maybe he will teach as an adjunct. I made the mistake of taking someone else for the national class. In truth , I learned little, but made a good grade. Professor Holder was harder, but I actually learned so much about Texas. So if you ever get a chance, he is w

You missed a fantastic professor! I had the privilege of taking him twice and found that his knowledge and experience made the often confused working of federal and state government a bit more palatable. His knowledge, and sometimes experiences, of Texas history make him the type of man you can sit and listen to for hours. Chicken Dinner!

Treated us as adults-more so than many other classers. Perhaps the best critical thinker in the college. If a person follows his stories, they always concern the concept in question. I am the last person in my family who will get to have him as a professr-3 generations. He is the stuff of legends.

He should be cloned. I learned more about Texas from him that I had learned in 24 years of life. Hope he reads this and realizes how much the "good" students respected him.

Prof. Holder is funny, engaging and knows what he's talking about. You must take notes, but he is very fair. I'm very sad to hear he's retiring I wanted to take him for another class I actually cried. Wonderful man great loss to this school. Will never forget this teacher.

Mr. Holder was an excellent teacher. As long as you take notes or just pay attention in class his tests will be a breeze. He is super easy but also knows what he is talking about. We did not use our textbook at all. Everyone should take his class!!

I took him for Texas Government, GOVT 2306. He is a GREAT professor and you can tell he really cares about what he teaches. His lectures are a little confusing at first because he likes to talk on the side a lot, but once you pick up on his style note-taking was a breeze. All the tests were multiple choice with bonus questions. Learned a lot!

I enjoyed going to Dr. Holder's lectures! He's very knowledgeable about his subject and this made class interesting. He jokes often and while it seems like this confused other students, if you write down just what he puts on the projector and its context, you'll have a good study guide. He reviews for tests very thoroughly, so bring a recorder!

Holder is an excellent teacher. He makes government much more than just a bunch of rote facts from a textbook. He likes to tell stories that are pertinent to what he's teaching. He gives you a review right before the test that covers everything on the test. You'd have to go to great lengths to not do well in his class.

One of my favorite professors. Recent reviews badmouth him, but he is a great teacher. Very understanding. Reviews before every test, and it covers 95% of the test. Record it or write fast and flashcard every bullet point in the review, and you're good. Great guy! Class was fun. Made jokes. Kept it interesting. Studied hard and made an A.

He gets incredibly off-task in lectures. My notes were all over the place and inadequate to study from for tests. Doesn't respond to emails. No podcasts or blackboard notes/help. You'll need to attend class every time in order to get the unclear notes. He does know his subject, but I'd take someone else if I had to take the class again.

I was told he was a great teacher, but I did not get an A in this class despite my efforts. He knows what he is talking about, yet he does not stay on subject, my notes were always in a jumbled mess. Reviews for tests were lightening fast and you will need a recorder for this guy! I think most guys do well in this class....
