No slides, doesn't write anything on the board, doesn't give handouts. He rants, and anything that comes out of his mouth is fair game for the tests.

Just awful. The comments on this site are all true. He wants no original opinion, not even a coherent reiteration of his own ideas in essays- just the ideas repeated EXACTLY in HIS OWN WORDS in no order. He gives higher marks to the people who quote his name in their essays ("Kubara-isms"). I learned nothing, he shouldn't be a prof.

Seems rather ironic that he preaches against the use of dogma then strictly enforces his own when it comes to testing. You are to reiterate his arguments and his arguments alone. You may walk in to his exams with YOUR arguments prepared, written out in symbolic logic with external references and you will still receive 0% on your response. Beware.

No set lesson plan for year. Seems he would just talk about whatever came up in class and then make you write tests about his opinion. Tests were very hard, and if you didn't agree with his opinion you had a very difficult time.

Kubara might not be the most ideal prof but he's super interesting and thought provoking. If you show up, pay attention to what he says & go to the review sessions you'll do great. He only has two tests & you're allowed to bring a cheat sheet so it's just copy & paste. Don't bother buying the txt unless its by Plato or Aristotle.

Interesting Prof. He gives you the exact information you need for tests, and offers review sessions before hand. He is much different than other profs, but overall a great class. His point of views help give another perspective.

Comment:
Claims to love dialectic discourse but at the same time he will cut students off mid sentence and doesn't take the time to listen or to understand their questions or concerns. Presents topics in such a random manner that it is hard to see how they are relevant to anything. He cares and spends extra time to help students review, however.

I've taken a lot of classes from Kubara, and i've got an easy A every time. He tells you the answers to what will eventually be his exam about 14 times ahead of time, and for most classes (except 1000) you get a cheat sheet with as much on it as you can fit. Learn to take notes & put in a little effort & the A is yours for the taking.

An interesting guy. He obviously knows what he's talking about and he is very interested in the material, however he's not too tied up with his students. If you are interesting in learning and thinking he'll help, but if you aren't he won't. He does admit that you are merely regurgitating his opinion but is still an informative class.

He does not care if you want to learn, but will facilitate your growth if you put the time in. Picky, tangential and an old goat, but brilliant. Not an easy marker but a fair one, if you have no philosophy experience I would steer clear, so i would not recommended him for Phil 1000.

Ever heard the saying, "my way or the highway" Kubara, is the true representation of this. Class discussion is completely useless, because he doesn't let students even finish a sentence before he is bashing their ideas. He is quite rude. I would recommend that you DO NOT take a class from him!

If I knew how terrible this class would have been this terrible i would have never taken it. He doesnt use the text book, he rants on on his own views with no structure and 50% of the time about things not applicable to the course, to make it worse you have to write down his words word for word if you want to pass his exams.

This class is very difficult. Kubara uses no notes and his tests are based solely on what he says in class. Be warned if you are not a philosophy major.
