A very tough course, but fairly marked. Mistakes are pointed out to you, and helped to be fixed. Do not take unless you are willing to work hard to get a good mark. He is among the best organized of the history professors, and the lectures were incredibly helpful when preparing for the tests, which are difficult, but fair.

DONT TAKE HIS CLASSES! He never stops spitting out facts and never gives any sort of guide you are just expected to know everything. Tests are obscure he asks ramdom dumb qustions. tells what he expects out of the essay the day you hand it in. I got a's in every other class but a b- in his. very annoyinng.

Intelligent and helpful. Better in senior-level classes than introductory classes. Skip his first-year survey class and take the Asian history (especially the senior classes) instead. In senior classes, he uses a variety of evaluation instruments and exercises. Very professional. Tends to have low expectations of first-year students.

Although he is a brilliant lecturer he only did this for the first couple of weeks, after which he devised an ingenious way to replace himself completely with the texts, in class and in homework.

kwong is hard to rate. He is a nice guy who tried to make the lectures interesting but they werent. It was a very boring class despite the interesting content. His lectures are simple and the tests are difficult. He is not too hard of marker but asks obscure questions.

He is a difficult marker, but is fair. You have to show up to class and know your stuff to get a good mark, but hey its Univeristy, its not highschool. Kwong actually cares about the history discipline, it shows in his teaching and tests.

Extremely elementary lectures- we had to find europe on a map of the world where 'E-U-R-O-P-E' was spelled in capital letters on said country! I felt the exam was unreasonably difficult, which was surprising given the lectures which bordered on insult to the average student's intelligence.

Yup he's hard. But it's history, ces't le vie. After reading the comments, it's pretty clear that most of the bad comments come from 1000 students who thought they were smarter than they actually are.

Currently in his hist 1000 class. Do whatever you can to avoid this class. I attended this class because it was the ONLY class in that timeslot, and only time slot I had available. I am pretty sure I am going to drop this class and lose some money, so that it dosnt drown my GPA. !!STAY FAR AWAY!!

He inspired me to devote my undergrad study to history by demanding my best efforts. Only by working hard can you earn his respect. Approach him as an earnest student and you will benefit from thoughtful advice. If you lack drive, a potential for sophisticated thought, then, yes, you'll complain.
