Jansen is one of the best profs I have come across. He really cares about his students and takes the time to answer your questions during labs. He is amazing at breaking down concepts in social science research and makes it fun. The labs are not too hard, but you do have to watch a video each week spanning 30-50 minutes and attend lectures/labs.

Dr. Jansen is an amazing prof! His lectures are super interesting and very easy to follow, he breaks big concepts down to understand them easily. I had him for Poli1000 and he inspired me to continue taking political science courses, I am currently in his Poli2610. I would recommend taking any class with him if you get the chance!

Jansen's lectures are really interesting, and he is fantastic at breaking concepts down into bite-size, easy to understand bits of info while making it interesting. A lot of participation marks, but they are not hard to get. He genuinely wants his students to do well, and the class does not have much work in it. The work is moderately difficult

Loved his class and teaching style! He's very good at simplifying concepts down and his class was very straightforward. You're graded on a paper, midterm, final, reading quizzes, and tutorials with tutors. There's a lot of room for participation marks in the last two of those things, so overall it felt like this course wasn't much work at all.

Harold genuinely cares about his students, and that shows in his meetings with students. I've taken two or three classes from him, and he's fantastic. Classes are tough and will make you work your ass off. I've always learned a ton, though.

Harold is a gem. Funny, gives interesting lectures, is clear with what he wants, etc. But the tests are really difficult. Study all you want, but nothing prepares you for "A and B are both correct but one is more correct than the other." This course is really similar to Alberta ed's Social 20/30 but more in depth and surprisingly interesting.

I was terrified for this course, but Harold is an amazing prof who is very engaging and helpful. The labs were a lot of fun and you learn a ton. The final exam felt like an absolute trainwreck, but if you pay attention and participate you'll get through it. Loved his teaching style, hope to have more courses with him.

Dr. Jansen is probably THE BEST Prof at the University of Lethbridge. The class I took was Digital Politics & it was a fascinating class. Dr. Jansen is clearly passionate about politics which could be seen very clearly through his teaching style. He is inspirational & wants all students to do well. 100% recommend!! :D

Take this class! Jansen is awesome and this class is on his research area, so he is knowledgable and passionate about it. There was a 40% group project that is a lot of work but really interesting to do and see everyone's results. If you have yet to take a class with him do so! The best prof in the department by far! He is a tough but fair marker.

-Professor Jansen's lectures are very interesting, hilarious and relatable examples make course concepts easier to understand! -He gives very helpful feedback on his essays. -However, exams are very long. Material in class and material in the textbook are both on the exam. You need to read the textbook.

Absolutely fantastic prof. His lectures are engaging, funny, and really informative. Really helpful and friendly. None of the info covered in class is online, so taking good notes is a must. Textbook readings are more supplementary, not essential. Would have come in handy for midterm and final though; multiple choice is not his strong suit.

Really great prof, really nice person. Don't be afraid of asking for clarification or bringing up topics you want to discuss; he really wants you to understand. The tests and the paper all require a lot of work but as long as you put the effort in, you can get a decent mark.

AB Politics sounds dry and awful but Harold has a million and one ways to make it the opposite. He loves his students and helps anyone at the drop of a hat. He is a consistent marker however he tends to have a lighter hand on papers once he knows who you are. If you haven't yet taken a class from Dr Jansen, you need to, you are missing out.

I have taken a few classes with Harold this being AB politics and gov. I would highly recommend him as a prof, he is very humorous (provided you think lame polisci jokes are funny) A fair marker, very helpful both in and outside of class. Midterm, paper, and course content is what you would expect for any 3000 level poli. Worth taking from Harold

Very relaxed and approachable. Great sense of humor. Definitely willing to help you out if you ask. The class has a paper, a midterm, and a final. So far the midterm was fair and he gives you flexibility on the paper topic so you can pick something interesting to you. Make sure you do the readings before class and you'll be fine.
