He gives a lecture every class and they are funny and interesting! Take notes, bc the study guide is a bunch of stuff from there. There are like 3 big tests, a service learning project of 8 Community service hours, and 3 optional extra credit papers. Doesn't update BB til the end. You only use the book to study for tests (outside class.) Funny guy!

TAKE HIM. If you do well enough on your exams and assignments he will excuse you from the final. His lectures are very interesting as well as his videos and stories. My favorite class ever!

Very boring professor but he is super sweet and nice he is old so he will tell you all his stories, he kind of goes off topic a little due to his story times he incorporates, testing can be all over the place due to how he words some questions there's no homework or classwork or quiz so only the test and the one paper can help there's extra credit!

He's a great professor but doesn't update grades on to blackboard until the end so keep track of what grade you have in the class. 3-4 tests no quizzes. lecture heavy but adds personal stories and makes it funny. Overall great. This class has service learning.

he actually makes his lectures enjoyable. He's hilarous and always has some funny stories to tell. You are only graded on the exams and one paper (the paper is super easy). The exams are a little tough but as long as you read a bit and study the definitions you'll be good! He does take attendance every day so show up!

He can be very unbiased but he is not clear as to what is on the exams. The class average on any given exam was at least a C and we all had to challenge the questions.

He's an overall good professor but his tests were so vague and they aren't based off questions he goes over in class. You don't have to study every single day to do well in the class but still keep on top of most of what he goes over. He offers a lot of extra credit. Funny dude

Dr. Botkin is incredibly knowledgeable about the topic and added much humor into his lectures. For me, the hardest part was his exams. You only have 3 exams plus a service learning project. The exams were incredibly specific and were taken from the text, which meant reading is mandatory. He does offer 3 extra credit opportunities.

Definitely one of my favorite profs. Made the lectures extremely interesting and funny. 10/10 would take again. There aren't many grades though, so make sure you study for the exams. They are straight forward and he gives the opportunity for the class to question his questions and will give points back. Don't skip class or you won't pass

It takes some time to get use to his lectures but if you give him the chance you will understand/enjoy them. At first I thought I was going to bomb the class because of the confusing tests but with the extra credit and class project it was an easy A

Absolutely loved this class! Took it a few semesters ago and Dr. Botkin is as great as they come! He only has three tests in his class but gives opportunities to get a higher grade. Also has a research paper that deals with volunteer work! Wish I could take more classes with him!

This class is so student-directed. It's great how much say you get in it and when you teach, you can pick what is addressed. He gets frustrated and will highlight things about students in front of the class. Russia is a common topic but you sit in the round and just all have a grand time.

Took Botkin's social problems class, it was very interesting. He is super hilarious, but only gives 4 grades total. A presentation, 2 test, and a research paper. The test come from the presentations and books, so make sure you show up for class! Overall a very fun class though.

Very nice teacher and likes to add humor to his lectures. Lectures mainly consist of his personal stories and how they relate to sociology. He does not discuss everything in the textbook so it is important to read through it.

There are not many grades in the class, so whatever you do.. do it well. He is absolutely hilarious and entertaining but you need to read the text book or you will not pass the tests (there are usually two) because he runs off topic in class a lot and doesn't often cover all the material. Overall amazing professor, would take again.

He was a great professor. I took this class as an open campus student being a senior in high school. He helped me put my studying skills to the work with the tests based on lecture time and the readings. MAKE SURE YOU DO EXTRA CREDIT. In the end I learned alot and didn't want the class to be over.
