Thom is a gem of a human being and prof! He can seem a bit scatterbrained and he is, but he is always down to help make things clear. He loves when people express their ideas and will literally entertain anything you say because he's just so into learning about when he's teaching. Doesn't think he's better than students! I'm gonna miss him!

I love the class that I took with him, it seemed daunting at first but it's super simple. He wants to challenge you to think and all you have to do is answer prompts and talk about it in class. He doesn't believe in right or wrong answers but more so how you got to where you did. I'm going to miss him since he's retiring!

Great prof. Seemed to really care about the deep learning of others. He also tends to pass out a "prompt" which goes over what you are doing, and have to do. I was never in the dark about what needed to get done in his class. His topics CAN be a bit scattered, but if you pay attention it comes together. Love this hippy man to death!

I love this professor - he's amazing!! I highly recommend his class to anyone who isn't afraid of work. You have to go to every class - a HUGE chunk of your mark depends on it. There is a lot of writing and a big project due at the end. I learned a lot though and Parkhill ended up being my favorite professor to date.

The class is very different and definately not for everyone but if you do what he tells you then you will learn. He tends to drag things out way too long especially with the final project. Other than that he was my favourtie prof first year, he's very helpful and relates to students very well and believes in self teaching. VERY approachable.

BRUTAL...borring not interesting to listen to at all. Doesn't really teach anything. Marking scheme is basically non-existing. Seriously worse time ever at ST. Thomas....

Excellent professor. He is very laid back and cares about his students. He is very knowledable in the subject - The class is 90% group work, so if that is not your thing then the class might not be for you. There is a lot of work, but it is interesting so it's not really hard to do.

Great Person, very approachable, helpful; he doesn't lecture much, which is a shame, because he has a lot to offer students. There is constant reading and written responds to do for his classes, and it is tiresome. Parkhill's assignments are numerous and you will constantly be at the library.

Doesn't care about Deadlines. Takes A MONTH to mark midterms and forget about getting grades on time! Christmas marks don't arrive until January. Doesn't explain projects and assignments AT ALL. You don't know how you're doing 'til the end, when you can't change anything. Readings are horrible.

Wasted a lot of time going to this class...often left 20 minutes in cuz assignments were done. Putting assignments on-line makes class attendance pointless...especially since you never get a mark until grades are submitted. No way to tell how youre doing

Comment:
Thom lets the students teach themselves, he just points them in the right direction and organizes class activities. He's great for discussion too. Not a good lecturer, which is why his teaching style works best.
