Comment:
You lose participation credit for not printing out the primary sources from the link every class. In lectures, he jumps from one idea to the next without teaching much. The course is very much learn it yourself, a direct quote from Pavlac is you learn from reading the text and primary sources, I am basically just here for any questions.

He assigns absentee assignments that correspond with the 5-15 page reading assignment that must be done before each class. Oh, and the textbook readings are very intricate. You must highlight and mark up your textbook, which he wrote, and he profits off. He also checks the textbook before every exam so you better hope you did it. Worst class ever.

I honestly loved Dr. Pavlac's class. You read his textbook and a few other books. his book is actually pretty interesting. He gives you bonus points if you find mistakes in his website or book. Look at his lapel pins and ties. They always match the topic of discussion. Many people say his class is hard, but just be prepared and you will be fine.

Very intelligent man, which he should be proud of, but he takes his class too seriously. If you are a history major, definitely take his class because it seems that he lived through the lessons he teaches. If you are not good at it, stay away. I struggled more than I ever have in this class. Also, when he grades you cannot read his writing.

I'm a bio major so I'm used to having hard professors. When I say stay away from him, I mean it. The man grades ridiculously hard. Quizzes are almost daily and there are assignments that he'll collect too. The paper is incredibly hard to get a decent grade on. I'll put it this way. I got one of the highest in the class with a 57/75. Stay away.

Very unorganized. Very unclear with his teaching and lectures. Not afraid to voice his political views. If you email him, he won't respond until 3-5 days later or may not respond at all. Don't take this class! You will stress over this class the entire semester.

He is a teacher who wants to get you involved but if history isn't your strong suit, you are going to REALLY have to work for your grade. Not too many notes, mainly just reading every night but he is always willing to help.

Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had, he relies entirely on the book he wrote. Teaches very little in class usually just touches on what you read the night before. There is a quiz about everyday and definitely an assignment each day as well

Pavlac knows what he is talking about when it comes to history, but I absolutely hated everything about his class. He thinks he knows EVERYTHING. He was rude and conceited, and for a core class, there is a huge workload. I would not recommend taking him, I hated the class.

This class taught me so much, but it was not worth the sacrifice it forced me to make to my other (and more major-relevant) important classes. Do stay away from his classes if you like your free time to focus on your major and not on a core.

Dr. Pavlac was the most difficult teacher that I've had at Kings. His exams take forever to prepare for because they are all essay questions. He acts like he knows not only everything about history, but about everything in the world. I needed to focus on this class more than my other 4 classes combined, and it was a core class! STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!

In order to achieve an A, you must earn an A. This class is not easy, it is extremely hard. However, if you do your work in an orderly and on time fashion, and do not procrastinate it will be much easier. Get a head start in his class, do all your text book assignments before they are due in order to work on your research.

Makes you think. Challenges ideas. Isn't that what college is for? Computers can make facts available, but can not master critical thinking or support opinions and conclussions. This is essential in this instant info world of today.

honestly I hated this man's class. He made me feel like a complete idiot in the class and he has made me never want to take another history class again. he belittles his students and outright said no one will get such a grade because no one DESERVES such a high grade. he just....ugh...don't like him...he can't teach...he goes off on tangents...

If you follow all of his directions and study his exams, youll get an A. hes not as bad as everyone says. he tells you everything you need to know for his papers and gives you the questions for his exams ahead of time! its easy if you know what youre doing, take lots of notes, and do the readings.

I did not like him very much at all. I did not find his mockery of Jesus very funny at all, and i do not like how he goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with the class...he has brought me to tears more than once and made me feel embarrassed about my beliefs (religious and non-religious)--Some topics should just not be brought up in class!

He is probably the biggest jerk @ King's.I am not easily offended by much, but his rants on his religious views and other topics that did not pertain at all to the class, made me feel somewhat uncomfortable. And if you could understand his million word per second lectures, you'll be fine.Try to avoid this him at ALL costs!Only prof @King's i despise!

He's nice, funny, and very helpful. Two papers and easy quizzes based on the readings. The tests are essays & so you know what you can expect but you have to study 10+ essays and he'll pick 4? to include (2 narrow essays and 2 broad essays) and you have to write one of each. It's a lot of studying.
