Grades harshly on papers. He is a great guy but lectures a lot. Make sure to take good notes in this class. Paper and writing heavy.

I think this is the worst class I have taken at CSB/SJU. He is very tough when it comes to grading and he does not even give feedback which is the worst part. In this class, we had to do an essay over some cases and I thought I was very specific. But, according to him it wasn't enough and I had to email him in order for him to give me feedback.

Phil is one of the coolest profs you can have at this school. He is chill and understanding, and his tests are not difficult. He does curve the grades at the end of the semester though, and also grades papers very harshly, so be aware that it is very hard to get an A in his class.

Very good guy, hardly any homework, but when it comes to grading papers he sucks, takes off points for no reason at all, take if you want minimal work and don't care about your grade

Phil is the best! Our class was a ton of fun but you still get to cover a good chunk of material. If you have a chance to take a class with him, do it!

you only hand in 3 papers for political life and theres about 3 tests in 224, you never really know what your grade will be, or what to study on tests, but somehow I came out with an A. class discussion is fun don't really have to read. No complaints

He's an awesome prof!! Loved him, loved the class - which I definitely did not expect to love politics. He plays devils advocate with both sides of the spectrum, understanding of different views. Knows his stuff. If you can take him, do it!! Great prof, great sense of humor!

Phil was an absolutely amazing Politics and Political Life prof. Discussion was fantastic, and our class became really close. I learned a ton without doing too much work. You don't necessarily have to do the reading, but it's worth your time, so I'd suggest it. Speak up a lot in class (though it's hard not to), and you'll be fine.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Take phil if you EVER have a chance. He's hilarious and you learn a ton. There's a lot of reading, but he goes over his material so well, you almost don't have to do it. I learned a TON without really trying (i don't know if that's good or bad :) )

Phil makes sure his Syposium gets along and is able to be comfortable with each other during discussions. His classes are informal in that one should never be afraid to shout out an answer or opiniion.

What can I say about Kronebusch? This guy was the chair for a reason! He exudes power and charisma and it is kind of humorous to see how deferential the other profs are around him. I can pratically see Wolsborn bowing to him when he walks the halls

Yes, he doesn't understand grading, but he isn't that liberal. And, he understands a key point - that most of the students in his class are borderline retards. He definitely tries to accomodate them by speaking slowly and mixing in humor. He is an excellent grad school advisor, but most students there don't need that anyway. Kind of a waste...

Phil's classes are entertaining, to say the least. He likes to bring out debate and even jump in himself occasionally. Liberal, but reasonable. Grading system is odd, but it has never bothered me.

Phil is hilarious. Not too much reading. Tests aren't hard. Willing to negotiate almost everything as far as due dates and test dates and times with the class. My only gripe is his grading system. It is a more of a competition with your classmates than what you earn system.

Phil is an awesome prof. He takes time to explain everything you need to know and his tests are relatively easy to understand and follow. He really cares about his students and reflects that in his willingness to be social and fun with them and not just an authority figure. AWESOME TEACHER!
