Comment:
She is very accommodating and understanding during the pandemic. Her online lectures are always nice, and she is caring towards the students. The course was not extremely difficult and she makes, in my opinion, boring material quite intriguing. No complaints.

I've had 2 classes with Cairnie and found her great in both. She's kind of a hard marker, but always willing to meet with students and discuss assignments and help you understand better. One of the best UoG profs for actually learning the important theory, her classes helped me do better in my others.

I left her 2120 course feeling like a real English student, her dissecting of critical theory gave me so much ammunition for future essays and truly taught me how to think as an English student. The course centred around Heart of Darkness and I can honestly say my opinion changed on the novella with every theory we looked at, she Is effective

I wanted to like her because she seems very nice and want to be of help, but she has no remorse when it comes to marking your papers. I do not know what would please her ever. The seminar did nothing for me and I cannot say what I actually took away from the course at all other than a hit to my average.

I had no interest in postcolonial English and did not want to take this class. that being said, I was genuinely shocked at how enjoyable it was. She is an excellent professor and I would easily recommend her and this course to anyone.

Prof Cairnie is one of the best profs I have had so far as a second year student. I had her for 2120 and 2200, and although she was better during the seminar class she was still great in lecture as well! She gives you the test questions before the tests and her classes have no final exams. Would definitely take her class again!

She's a good prof and really nice, but kind of a tough marker. She gets a bit off topic sometimes and her thoughts aren't always clear, and sometimes she gets a little boring. But a very sweet person, I would recommend her seminar classes over her lectures.

Julie Cairnie was hands down the best prof I've ever had in all my 4 years in Guelph. Signed into class late and missed a quiz and she spent time helping me catch up the marks! She's the first prof who really reached out to me and cared about how I was doing. Always gave me great tips on what to study during office hours with her. LOVE HER!!!!

I loved her area of study (African childhood literature). She is an incredibly helpful prof, and both encourages and enjoys when students discuss assignments with her. Gives great feedback so you know where to improve your writing in the future.

I wish Carnie would offer an advance level course on post colonial literature. I enjoyed the readings, and all her lectures.

Great prof. Was not interested in post colonial literature prior to the course and yet never missed a class. Requirements were laid out clearly (weekly assignments but no final, midterms or papers) and lectures were focused, clear, and interesting. Focus on African literatures and materials were chosen to examine many different perspectives.

Professor Cairnie was a fantastic professor! I was not at all interested in postcolonial literature before the course and did not want to take it at all, but she made it one of my favourite classes. Lots of class discussion, in a good way. Always made sure we were well prepared for assignments.

Wonderful, wonderful professor. Found the subject matter very interesting. Her marking is extremely fair. If you do the readings in her post colonial second year courses you will pass with flying colours. Her seminars are interesting, well structured and fair. Loved her and loved the literature. Have taken her classes three times. Big thumbs up!

She was all over the place and did not stay on topic. I would not suggest taking this class if it can be avoided.
