This guy is a gem. Real funny guy although lectures can be dry sometimes. Clear grading criteria and pretty easy grader. Tests were fair although each test question was worth 10% of the final grade. Overall a good prof.

Overall Dr. Hookey wasn't that bad. He is very test heavy with only 3 midterms (20% each) and a final (40%) and if you miss an examination he just adds equal amount on to what you have written. The course starts off very easy and gradually builds, however the last two weeks were damn near impossible to understand. DO THE PROBLEM SETS.

Really likeable prof who does a great job at teaching the material. Pretty fair marker, however the only assessments he provides for the course are the tests and the final exam. There are 3 tests with 2 questions each and a final with 4 questions, meaning each individual question is worth 10%. Outside of that, really enjoyed his class!

Seldom if ever posts notes,be sure to go to class and tutorials. All evaluation comes from tests. Little to no theory, be sure to practice any and all example questions! He loves to throw in little tricks, read the questions carefully. Very fair marker, if you get stuck write out what you would do and assumptions for part marks.

Hookey gives extremely fair tests. The three midterms makeup 60% of your grade and the final is 40%. The final is very fair and he tells you which types of questions will be on the midterms and final. I would definitely take him again!

Excellent introduction to thermodynamics. He helps you understand course material by using real life examples, and his worked examples are exceptional and by far the most useful study piece you will have. Tests are fair as long as you have practiced. The final will test your skills so be prepared for it. Overall, awesome experience with this prof.

I had Hookey for Thermo I and it was one of my favourite courses. He is a great teacher who answers students questions very well. Although he will provide a "list" of questions you may get, make sure you really understand them because he will always throw in a twist on the exams. He has a dry sense of humour which keeps class interesting.

He has a very dry sense of humour- hard not to enjoy. He spends a lot of class time trying to make perfect straight lines with a ruler rather than actually teaching. Overall a good prof, his tests are fair for the most part but he is a tough grader. Be sure to include your vector arrows and coordinate systems as he will take off a lot of marks.

Overall good professor. Very clear and concise on what he expects from you. The only thing you have to do is PRACTICE! It is so important if you want to do well in this class. If you do all the problem sets and examples, then you will do great in this course. The final was tricky, but what final isn't? It's engineering.

If you know how to do the tests from the previous years from his website you will know how to do the tests because they are almost exactly the same. Problem sets are also a good idea to review to get a really good mark.

Very methodical and clear teaching style--one of the best profs I've had at MUN. If you go to the classes and do his assignments, which are not for credit, you will know what to expect on tests.

Hookey's a pretty strange lad, but compared to what profs are normally like, he's relatively normal. Tough tests tough finals but that's engineering school for ya.

Smart guy, good sense of humour. Knows his stuff AND knows how to communicate it effectively to his students. Goes off on 5 minute "rants" almost every lecture, but they are usually interesting and related to the topic we're learning. Course layout and tests are very clear, but thermodynamics can be tricky! You NEED to do practice problems.

Get practice exams and tests from students who have done the course before. His tests and finals are always the same style question and he rarely puts any surprises on exams. Just do the practice and go to class, and it's easy to get an A in his class

He is knowledgable and passionate about engineering, but doesn't have time for anyone who isn't doing well in his class, no matter how hard they are trying. He didn't give out assignments, which made it hard to get a feeling for where you were in the class.
