Comment:
Chapter notes posted online so pay attention during class b/c his accent is very heavy. ZERO grading criteria/rubric for the term project. 3 easy tests but subtracted random points b/c didn't want to give 100% so fight for your grade. Term project wasn't even mentioned until late October and was due before Thanksgiving. You're basically on your own

I personally think his accent was extremely distinct. Very hard to understand in the lecture however go to class because the participation points are a lot and there are very few assignments in the grade book. Tests are sometimes hard to understand with the broken English but he's very generous when it comes to that.

Shin is from South Korea, so he does have an accent, which isn't as bad as you might think. If you do your work and review the chapters in the book you should at least get a B in the class. He really cares about his students and is passionate about Sociology.

All of the notes are online. Accent can be bad at times, but can understand him. Sit in the front so you can hear him, if in a big lecture hall. 4 tests and 2 homework assignments are the only things in the grade book. Takes attendance randomly.

Shin is foreign which does make it hard to understand him, but that doesn't mean he is a bad professor. He is very helpful and understanding if you give him the same respect back. He gave us all of the essay questions prior to the test so that we could get 100% on them. If you have questions, just ask. He is more than willing to help you out!

Has 4 tests around 3 chapters each and each one is worth 100 points and are all multiple choice. Has three homework assignments. Might give some extra credit. Overall good class if you read the book and look at the handouts, but do not go to class you should get a B.

There are only four tests and two assignments in the grading book. So, if you do bad on the tests, you do bad in the class! Only took attendance once all semester so attendance doesn't seem required. Takes a long time to grade things.

His accent is so strong, its very hard to understand anything he says. Notes, tests, and homework assignments are all written like he speaks, broken English. He takes random attendance 5 times throughout the semester.

Terrible professor. Doesn't explain material well and gets very frustrated when students ask questions. He takes offense to a question instead of trying to explain it in a different way to help students understand. If you miss information then hopefully you have a friend in the class who heard him.If he doesn't like you, better luck next time.

This class was horrible. I could not find a way to keep interested or to pay attention. THe notes and his speaking are in broken english. It is not worth going to or taking. He is a nice man but I learned nothing.

Dr.Shin is really nice, he does have a heavy accent, but it is easy to understand if you're actually listening and not spacing off. He likes for his students to ask questions and to actually learn. He is very nice and highly intelligent. Give him a chance, don't let the heavy accent turn you away, he's a great PhD.

Kind of funny, but language barriers make things a bit complicated. He writes the way he speaks, and it often complicates homework descriptions and exam questions.

Overall, the class was fairly easy. However, Shin was extremely unhelpful when asked for assistance, and his lectures were very unclear. Additionally, he DOES NOT explain his homework assignments at all. He leaves the guidlines vague, which makes it nearly impossible to do.

Dr. Shin happens to be one of my favorite instructors. Yes, he is a bit hard to understand at times. If you actually go to class, and let him know who you are, you can do very well in his classes. He actually knows what he is talking about. I will miss him when I graduate!!
