Things I wish I had done differently which would have helped: brush up on calculus/ math notations, read textbook meticulously, properly do the HW/ tutorial questions and make use of office hours. The midterm and final are curved big time, so if you put in the effort 100% and go to the prof when stuck (yes he can be scary), you can succeed!

The ideal option is to avoid his class . Marking in this course is on a weird curve. He gives everyone an A, but makes you feel worthless all semester.

Teaches by reading off slides very well, invites questions and then insults you and everyone he knows for 20 minutes on lack of understanding math. Go to class, otherwise, you will loose 30% of your attendance marks.

Prof Armstrong is a very passionate individual and I admire his enthusiasm towards teaching econ. His semester is organized very well, but be prepared to do plenty of independent study as he expects you to know more than you probably do. His midterm/final are very hard, but the curve WILL SAVE YOU, DONT GIVE UP. My midtermwas curved from a %50->%86

Has a hard time teaching first year students. Often spends class time bad mouthing other economics professors. Makes the exams ridiculously challenging and unrelated to his teaching. He does curve the grades though. You are better off in a different section.

Condescending. Every single time I approached him for help in class or outside, I would leave feeling as though I'm not worthy of being in his class.

ridiculous expectations and very full of himself. Take the other sections or the ECON 1002/1001 courses as substitute. They are the same.

Nice and smart guy, but he doesn't understand how to teach economics to people who are just learning it. Beware tests.

Super nice professor, and he really tries to help and raise the class average. He covers everything exactly like he said he would. I would take him again. This class itself is pretty challenging, and for most people, it is the toughest in their degree. So be ready to study and work hard.

This class is challenging but worth it. He's a great lecturer, and he manages to make really difficult concepts slightly less dry. I learned more in this class than in any other econ class. Make sure to take the time to do the assignments, & don't freak out about insanely hard exams -- the curve is fair. Go to his office hours for assignments!

One of the hardest finals I've taken in my university life. Extremely helpful professor if you take the time to to go office hours. Stay on top of the readings and pay attention to everything he says and explains in class and you should do fine.

My favourite class ever. Extremely difficult, but with hard work, you can do well. It's easy to see that he enjoys what he does, and none of his lectures were ever boring, imo. Approachable and always makes sure to go over everything clearly. Assignment questions were very helpful and, although difficult, are worth investing time in. 10/10

This is a tough course. If you're not planning on grad school take it with the other prof. With hard work this class is manageable. Armstrong can be helpful - do not hesitate to ask him questions! He does want his students to succeed, even past the undergrad level which is why this course is so difficult. I would take a class with him again!
