Comment:
The course content is pretty well organized, but the assignment instructions were pretty vague. The assignment and the discussion posts aren't weighted very heavily, so the final is 50% and cumulative, which sucks. Some of his test questions are also pretty specific.

This class had really interesting course content which was very useful to learn as a CJPP major. However, the professor was very unhelpful when it came to answering questions. The exams were very specific, and nit picky (which was very stressful considering the final was 50% of grade). Would not recommend to other students.

I have taken both psych of sport and psych of law with Yarmey and have hated every second of both. He is extremely unclear with assignments and is never willing to provide further help or feedback. By far the worse prof I have ever had. Marks take forever to come back and you have no idea how well you are doing in the class until after the final.

Comment:
Do not take this class. 50% cumulative final. The prof is vague & so are the assignments. Posts are too much work for what they are worth. Way too much material on the final. I think the prof is worried people see this as a bird course and takes himself to seriously, he could have made this really interesting. Does not set students up for success.

15% of the grade was weekly discussion posts, which were 3 pages of single spaced writing each week. A ton of work for a small return. Tough marking. Feedback wasn't given, so you had no idea how you were doing Midterm was incredibly specific. Very fact based. Paper was poorly outlined. He was reluctant to answer questions with any detail.

Yarmey's lack of clarity is the reason I think a lot of people struggled in this course. I was constantly submitting assignments without being confident that I had completed the given requirements. His tests are also extremely specific. He isn't the worst prof out there but prepare to be challenged when taking his course.

I took psych of law online. TA's marked extremely hard on the paper and online discussions, and when I emailed the professor to clarify marks I got extremely short responses that went against posts he made in the online discussion helping students. The final was so hard, cumulative and was testing small pointless details in the textbook

Comment:
Yarmey's assignments are pretty unclear and when students try to clarify, he rarely gives them a straight-forward answer. If anything, his answers usually lead me to ask more questions. It is an interesting class but I was constantly left wondering if I was doing the assignments properly, which is unfortunate when I was well aware of the material.

Such a rude professor, he is very unprofessional in his responses and is in no way understanding of his students. The course had interesting content, but a lot of it, could have been worth it had the professor not be such an ill character, but I will not be recommending him to anyone.

Very nice and helpful from my experience. Seems very knowledgeable and passionate about this field. Loved the course as well, but be prepared to spend a lot of time reading and studying. The exam questions were very specific at times and the final covers the whole semester (which is a LOT of material!)

I took his psyc of law class de in the summer and basically did no work and still got a good mark. He is really straightforward and if you put minimal effort in you will still do well. Love him.

Found Dan to be a pretty straight forward guy. Very clear. He was pretty generous marking papers. A good number of people did poorly on exams, however other found it quite simple. Overall i believe it was taught really well. Learned a lot.

Oh my god... where to start... horrible tests with misleading questions, multiple correct answers per question...If you can only pull of a 78 on a test with the textbook in front of you and having studied, there's something wrong. He's probably the rudest prof I've ever had to deal with, very unhelpful and UNPROFESSIONAL. It's time to retire buddy.

Horrible tests, frequently asks questions that have two possible right answers. When you ask him to explain why one answer is right and the other wrong he just says "that is what the textbook authors say and I agree with them". Also the cumulative final covers 13 chapters equally weighted!

Professor Yarmey knows his stuff- sure his class is difficult, but it's a 3rd level psyc course- it's supposed to be difficult! Having said all this, avoid this course unless you have a high interest or absolutely need it for credit. Pick an easier teacher.

A 50% final with reference to specific studies and facts. Supplemental readings are a waste of time. It's really ironic how a psychology professor doesn't seem to understand the absolute basics of writing a test - misleading questions and bad grammar. Avoid this course at all costs!

I would avoid this professor. He does not provide any help to students and his exam questions are ridiculously specific and do not adequately cover the material in the many textbooks he assigns. I advise trying to take the course with any other professor.

Great course & I learned a tremendous amount. I was willing to work and benefitted from the challenge. Thats why I'm at university - my attitude is very different from what I've read from others here. If you're lazy don't bother with this course. Go back to primary school and STOP complaining about good profs who want to engage your mind!
