Professor Devlin is an interesting character-I think we covered a part of history he really likes this past semester and his enthusiasm grew on my class. He is a hard grader, only uses lecture to convey information. You don't have to do the reading because all the info he wants he lectures on really. I'd recommend him but it depends on the person.

Devlin is a hard grader and although I wish he would use more than just lecture to get notes and information to us, he is a good teacher. Although I haven't done well on the 2 papers this semester he graded, it's motivating me to do better the next 3 semesters I'm in my honors sequence. Quite honestly I love this sequence more than any other class!

NOT A GOOD TEACHER, all test are essays and no extra credit aviable. Half of the class left at break everytime. He needs to retire. Gives you bad feedback and will not help you when asked. Plus he shows up late every week!

DEVIL. HE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO STILL BE A PROFESSOR. End of story. Useless. Boring. Hasn't updated a lesson plan in at least 30+ years. Still using same thing, same note pads with the same boring notes. Tests are near impossible. He is quite jerky, arrogant, and bullheaded. Does not know as much as he thinks he does... "Run awaaaaay!"

He is a brilliant and kind man who is a bit shy and therfore comes off arrogant when he hides behind his knowledge. If he sees you are a serious student and worth his time, he will help you. He is a tough grader and expects you to be prepared. You can and will do well if you are serious, committed, pay attention, and ditch the self pity.

Incredibly knowledgable about subject matter. Easy to talk to after class or in office hours if you have any questions. Tests and papers can be demanding, but pay all you really need to do is pay attention to the lectures and read the primary source documents. Amusing sense of humor, but can come off as too dry for some. Really good prof overall

ATTN - people who complain about the toughness of his classes - CRY ME A RIVER! The man is one of the most brilliant lecturers on campus, and knows his subject. You have to work hard to be successful in his class, but you have a firm understanding in several fields of history once you finish his one class. SERIOUS historians need only apply!

He gave ONE lecture that I liked. His essay-answer tests are impossible: if you're general, he lambasts you for being too general, and if you're specific, you either weren't specific enough, or specific about the wrong thing! I answered one perfectly and still only got 3/4. Highest test score was a low B, and I test VERY well. Run like hell.

One of the most knowledgable profs I've ever had. He IS a difficult grader and there is tons of reading, but the lectures cover practically everything that appears on the tests, and the lectures are very well done, intelligent, and humerous.

Very condesending and rude. Does not test on what he teaches in class, but rather what you learn on your own time, which he expects you to have a great deal of. Very inconsiderate and unaccomodating.

Good: Can be funny, downplays historical concepts so you can absorb them easier, very smart, a great paper grader! Bad: MAKE SURE you READ what he tells you to, very boring, is late and always lets class out late, hard tests.

Very smart, but does not like to share the wealth. Lectures are ok, but you have a read a load to do well on the tests. His tests are hard!!! Honestly, I think he wants be to fail. Don't talk him, you'll just be confused and stressed out.

Cocky, older man.Incredibly Smart.I'm a senior with a 3.4 GPA-- getting a C in his class. Run like hell! He tries to prove what he knows-- but he does know a whole ton. However, he doesn't "teach", just grades hard on what you taught yourself...

Good teacher, horrible person. Knows his stuff. Good lectures. Tests are extremely hard. As a person-very arrogant, cocky, dont expect much help if you go to his office and do not be suprised if he belittles you once there.

Talk about testing you on what you taught yourself, goes off about useless information, and then time is cut short, and you need to teach yourself, tests are out of control, and very hard.

Little known fact about Devlin: he is the best MOE prof to write for! Go to his office, he will give you books and help. He seems grumpy in class, but put up with it and you'll get an A on your paper.
