Dr. Laurel is great and caring but kind of crazy, in a fun way. You read a lot of easy short stories and 1 novel. Some nights more reading than others but it's not bad. 3 papers over the semester, each 3 pages. 2 easy, non-comprehensive exams on what you were just reading in class. Allowed to use notes on exams- easy. Allowed to miss 6 classes.

Professor Laurel loves what she does and just wants you to enjoy the material. She tries to make the class interesting, and it can be if you do what you're supposed to and pay attention in class. Typical workload expected for an English class. She has a very strong personality but it's entertaining. Definitely not bad. Would recommend.

She was an absolutely horrible teacher. She is extremely judgemental and it's clear that she wants you to believe what she believes. I've never had a professor make me cry until I took a class with her. The only good parts about her class was that she allows up to 6 absences, and she puts the notes and podcast on blackboard.

Through all of her quirkiness, Laurel actually proves to be a great professor. If you study, you will get a good grade. The class is cut up in 4 sections, a test for each, along with spontaneous pop quizzes. The quizzes add up so make sure to do the readings. Overall, two thumbs up!

I have Laurel this current Fall 2011 semester. The class is fairly challeging just because she is a fairly difficult graders. However, she is very judgement. In class she indirectly tries to push her own views on yourself. She will make generalizations and try to make you agree with them in front of the class. She wears a nose ring. enough said.

I participated frequently and turned in all assignments on time. I am getting an A. However, I despise her. "Terrible choice for Department head. I feel like sometimes she thought she was teaching 7th graders...plot, tone, antagonist. Don't take her if you know ANYTHING about English already - I wanted to gouge out my own eyes." <perfectly said

Great professor. You have to actually read and pay attention in class to do well, but the material is not very hard at all. Just follow her study guides and notes to the letter and you will do very well. I got an A in this class, and I had no interest in literature at all prior to this class.

Comment:
I took her class because I was slightly interested in literature. I did not have my major declared yet so I was dipping into different courses. If you are not an English major this course/teacher is not for you. She is very critical on how you analyze the text. Classes can be very boring if you do not love literature.

Perhaps one of the most intelligent professors on campus. She knows her stuff and enables students to understand things they normally wouldn't because of the intellectual discussions that are held in her class. She will read every word in your papers and comment throughout.YOU CAN'T HELP BUT INCREASE YOUR SKILLS IN ANALYZING LITERATURE AND WRITING

love her! i read some of the other comments..who cares about her attire? to say that she has a "liberal agenda" implies that she chooses texts that don't pertain to the class..untrue! as long as you complete the assignments and show effort in class you will be fine. she's not going to hand you an A, but she won't make it hard for you to earn one.

This class is unbarable. I always did well in English, but this woman only gives out Bs. As an intro class, it should be a GPA booster. The class is very boring, especiall because you watch her type notes all class long. AVIOD IT!

Horrible. Everything we read was about minorities or gays/lesbians. She had a very liberal agenda. Too much mindless work. We had to write in a literature class.Would never take again.
