Comment:
The content is boring. The textbook is hard to read and doesn't make much sense until he goes over it. Tests are ridiculously hard and his excuse for bad grades is that students didn't ask enough questions. There are reading responses due each class that are pretty easy. Don't take this guy if you can help it.

Chip cares about his students and enjoys philosophical debates. I would not take him again however, as the exams are all essays.

He tries to make the class interesting but if no one participates it's boring and a lot of notes. There's a 3 point reading quiz almost every class but if you read you'll be okay. He's a good professor I just think the class is hard in general, he does his best to keep you interested. I would recommend if you need it as a GenEd and you like arguing

Dont be fooled by his ratings. Hardest and most confusing prof. If your off by one little thing, he marks the question wrong. Mid term is 30% and Final is 30%. His handwriting is impossible to read. He doesnt use canvas so you wont know your grade. He doesnt have power points or gives notes of the information. GPA killer for sure

AVOID! I have no clue why his rating is so high. One of the most difficult professors Ive taken. Homework and readings every night. Does not use canvas and will not tell you what your grade is even if you ask. This class with KILL your GPA. He will even give out F-s. Save yourself the time and pick another professor if possible !

Doesn't use canvas, so you will never know your exact grade. Only hand writes, and his hand writing is hard to read. Went to every class, but the way he teaches makes no sense. If you screw up one little thing, you get a F-. HARD GRADER do not take him. GPA killer.

GPA KILLER!!! It is reasonable to get a B at first but then about halfway through the class he gage us quizzes that he told us before hand we would fail. And he was excited and proud when everyone but one person passed. It seems like if 95% percent of the class has an F then it's the professor that failed, not the students.

He is a very hard professor. I went to class everyday. Took notes and paid attention during lecture (which got me nowhere). I would highly recommend another professor if you have never take a Phil class before. AVOID him if its your first Phil class. His expectations for students to be on the same level as him is baffling, he even gives out F-s.

It is lecture based heavy so if you don't pay attention you won't do well. The practice problems help A LOT for the midterm and final. If you are stuck or don't understand E-MAIL HIM!! I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH. He is there to help and really gives great feedback if you get something wrong. It is not easy unless you put in the work.

Nice person. Awful prof. If you don't do it exactly how he would the whole thing will be wrong. You never know your grade because he doesn't have canvas. He goes very quickly through the material and almost everyone in that class is struggling. Upside is your homework will keep your grade up until final

there's only 2 tests for the entire semester, but homework due every class. I went to his office hours and he was very condescending. He just didn't know how to teach. Not easy to get a high grade.

If you show up, do hw, and study, you will get a good grade. The people who did poorly were the ones who never showed up. He is very clear when teaching and encourages student participation. Learned over 60 student's names in a week, which shows he cares. Great guy and wonderful professor. Pop quizzes were easy if you memorized the basics.

people complaining on here were the ones who never went to class lol. Chip is a good teacher and even though he decides to teach a different way which may have been a little difficult, he was always there to help and make sure all his students understood even in a lecture. one of my favorite classes, dont be afraid by the reviews just work hard

Listen I know you're coming here to see if you should take this professor for your GenEd Philosophy class. Well have no fear, I'm here to save you. DO NOT TAKE CHIP BOLYARD OR PHIL 120. His own "philosophy?": come to class and do the homework and maybe you'll get a C. Take Phil 150 instead. Unless you want to cry on every floor of the library!

WORST TEACHER EVER. GPA KILLER. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Doesn't have a canvas page so you have no idea what the homework is/what your grade is/ anything helpful about a canvas page you dont have. He writes all lectures on white board and his handwriting is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. The whole class failed his midterm and he blamed it on our studying habits.

Chip is a nice guy, but he is an unfair grader. He expects the students to be at the same level as him when he is grading the exams. He also gives out F- which is not a real grade. The only reason my gpa wasn't wrecked is because he had to give out a crazy curve for the exams.

This course is a gen ed and should not be this hard. There's homework due every class and you can't turn in it even 5 minutes late. He doesn't use canvas so you never know what you have in the class. This class varies between professors, and he makes it harder than it needs to be. His grading makes no sense, it's impossible to get an A on tests.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This is way too hard to be a gen ed. The way he speaks to people is disrespectful, and he thinks he's better than everyone else. He doesn't use canvas or any other online grading system, so you don't know your grade until the end. A majority of your grade is the midterm and final, and they are both extremely difficult.

Book work every class. Buy your textbook ahead of time. Best advice, dont take this class. Not being him is a reason he takes points off your exams. Also, the exams are super long and really hard.
