Had JS for multiple CMAT classes while at UB. While giving a presentation she rolled her eyes and sighed out loud. I dont know why I took her for electives either, but here is a warning: avoid any of the non required courses where she is the teacher. UB has professors that really do a great job and inspire - she isnt one of them.

We had weekly forums and quizzes. Both were super easy but make sure you make extra posts or you won't get full credit. She's friendly to talk to and will answer your questions within 48 hours. Her quizzes had a lot of typos so be careful to not lose points or email her if one tripped you up! You're graded on about 30 things.

Here's what you don't want to do: teach an ART class and grade people based on how "interesting" their work is. Julie Simon displays obvious personal opinion in her grading and she is probably the least helpful professor I've had. She claims CMAT 212 is a prerequisite for this class - IT'S NOT, so beware if you're going in with no Photoshop skills.

Had her for CMAT 451. At first, I thought she was pretty cool, but, as the semester went on, she became more snappy. If you ask her for help for anything, and you don't understand it at first, she'll get annoyed and raise her voice at you. Another thing to note, she has an ego.

I started this capstone class intimidated and afraid, but, to my surprise, it ended the exact opposite! I was able to build my portfolio and get rid of my public speaking fear all while learning about the industry and gaining motivation from Julie. If you're about to take this class and have Julie, consider yourself lucky. She was great!

Comm. Tech. isn't the easiest class to take, but Julie made it bearable! I loved her personality and enthusiasm for all of the different types of communication technologies. One thing I will say to be aware of are the quizzes. They're out for blood. Just do your best on all of them, show up to class, and pay attention. You'll be okay.

Simon is such a caring professor, she's always willing to answer questions and meet with you outside of class. Class is all lectures, but her tests and quizzes are straightforward. She isn't one of those teachers that tries to trick you.

I'm an older student and I found her to be fair, as far as grades are concerned. You watch a film and then take a quiz after each one. What I liked is I could re-take the quiz, for a better grade. So it was not hard to get an A. She told us the class would move fast (summer mini-semester) and it makes it tough. Do the work! Ellie

Spends more time talking about being in the video field for 30 years & her cats then helping students know what exposure is. Students are often left to their own devices for projects & she focuses more on working in a group then creating a good product. Waste of money & doesn't prepare students for work in the real world.

If you go to UB and you are a Digi Comm major. Trust me you will have no choice but to take her. She purposefully tricks you on quizzes. Class is very fast paced. Tough but fair grader. Ruthless but she knows her stuff. Took attendance before class even started though, many times, not sure what that was about since part of our grade is attendance.

She is a horrible teacher. i have her for this class and CMAT/Engl 333. Dont take either of them. Especially not CMAT/ENGL 333. She speeds through the slides and does not share them. She goes off on a tangent from time to time. Its pretty annoying. She also is very rude and sarcastic.

Many students warned me about her classes especially her photography class. If you have to take her, exercise your options first. You will be in a rude awakening. She is not only rude but she is also very insensitive to minority students. She allegedly chargers her black clients more money (blatant said this in regards of her photograph "business".

I love watching movies, for credit and that was cool. 9 QUIZES, are take; & can re-take (makes getting grade easy). WARNING, the Final is tough and can considerably lower your grade (study hard). Print your Quiz for PROOF. Be sure to SUBMIT. Simon could care less if you have technical problems -NO REDOS!! She is HAUGHTY! Cares less about you.

Her attitude was very unprofessional, and she seemed to only help those who seem to be her favorites. Also a miss-know-it-all for someone who failed miserably at her day job she claims to know so much about. Also very unapproachable, especially to those especially those who have learning disabilities.

My letter grade was dropped a one-and-a-half letters for being 5 minutes late to class more than 3 times. It was a class over summer...and all we did was watch Movies in the class. So....take. that. for what. its. worth.

She is a fair grader as far as homework and papers are concerned. She always replies to emails right away and seems to genuinely want to help. However, I do not recommend anyone take her class in com tech; it is very hard to sit through .A select few do seem to enjoy the class, though.

She is very condescending and insists on group work which is a huge pet peeve of mine. Doesn't communicate well with anyone. Probably one of the weakest professor UB's grad program has to offer. She shoudl stick to undergrad or possibly her day job.
